Late hours, rain pouring outside my window

Passing showers, thunder clamoring, and I know

It’s the time, when I find the words so easily

When they rhyme, thoughts coming on, so peacefully

What is it, about the sounds of nature’s wrath?

Why do I sit, instead of seeking out its path?

To wander about, feel the water on my face

I have no doubt, I’d get lost in such a place

Instead I’m here, listening instead of being

How I wish to disappear, the power surely freeing

To get lost, in a world outside this room

At any cost, to do away with all this gloom

But here I stay, my fingers speak of what I see

In every way, I shall remember, this is me

The sunlight fades, ever fast, away

As darkening clouds, obscure the day

Bringing daggers, lights against the gloom

With a thunderous roar, and shattering boom

Over the lands, to quench an insatiable thirst

Pelting down, from the skies, a raucous cloudburst

Flooding over the streets and sidewalks, where

People run to escape, this torrential nightmare

The falling of the rain is, how Mother Nature rebels

Until she’s had enough, then, the rain she will quell

Author’s Note:  I wrote this while listening to a thunderstorm.  The skies opened up and it poured!!  I love writing to that sound   🙂

She is the Storm ~ #poetry

This was the sky moments before a huge thunderstorm barreled its way through. Still going, too.

It came down in buckets
While wind blew with rage
A sky filled with lightning
The storm, center stage

Her thunder was deafening
Couldn’t hear myself think
Why on Earth would nature
Put up such a stink

Sounds, like a freight train,
Roaring, past the door
The whole house is shaking
I can’t take anymore

Calmer days need take heed
She is mighty, riding the skies
A figure of destructive fury
She wears as an artful guise

The color of sunlight, so bright
She’ll shine her light, on a dare
Deceptive is she, quite willingly
Hiding in the clouds, elsewhere

She is the storm, throughout the night

As thunder roars, and skies turn white

Blissfully wreaks havoc, among the calm

Yes, this is her fire, her soothing balm

Scatters herself, with ice, snow and rain

Eyes of fury, a heart, filled with disdain

No chance to stop this deadly spree

She thrives on it, tis her malady

And just when you think she, at last, subsides

She returns, with an anger, more intensified

Author’s note:  Dedicated to the last three Nor’easter’s with number four arriving tomorrow!!  Someone, please, make them stop!

thunderstorm-501914_960_720Clouds come together

In a battle of power

Colliding, one into the other

Clashing, crashing

A calamitous clamor

Like a toddler

Incessantly banging a drum

The rhythm of beautiful noise
