His beacons pierce night
Through clouds, thick
Unsettled
Poseidon balks, unamused
As lightning strikes deep

Fingers crawling, cross the sky
Grasping shadows, as they fly
Without care, they go awry
In the darkness, lights, adorning
When at last, the dawn of day
Awakens where it longs to play
It’s decided, it cannot stay
Gone quickly, before morning
Yet, to return, and start anew
Fingers twisted, turned, askew
And we know not what to do
Its evil deeds, suborning
Alas, the storm, is surely we
And we watch, but never see
What has become, of you, and me
Best to heed its warning

The storm raged
thunderous explosions
like the Fourth of July
without its colors
rattled windows
dislocated, limbs fell
against the glass
or did they knock
asking me, to let them in
shelter from the battle
I don’t know, shades drawn
lights out, I could not see
seated in the darkness
only my shadow reflected
on the wall, as lightning
danced across the skies
illuminated, then black again
ice pellets, echoed,
the noise, like machine guns,
ravaging the night, a hunter
claimed his prey
then unexpected silence
the only sound heard
was the peaceful rain,
gently falling.
a truce…………
