So many times she would walk by that jar

The one they kept hidden, near the trees

And though they told her never to touch it

She did exactly what wasn’t meant to be

Quickly, gathering the jar, in her hands

She ran off, beyond her home and her kin

Sitting down, for just for a mere moment

Mesmerized by the light, emanating within

Curiosity, got the better of her, poor girl

Needing to know, if the fire would grow

Opening the lid, without warning, it flew

Escaping in the forest, as fast as it could go

A look of surprise came across her face

When she realized what she had done

The light of day, suddenly began to glow

From a jar, in the forest, of the rising sun

With our windows, frosted, from winter’s rime

We watched snowflakes waltzing, a dance, sublime

And a bright red cardinal, sat high, in the tree

These two, paired together, in perfect harmony

Sounds in the Night ~ #poeticprose #spirits

Water drips in the shower stall, there’s no one in that room, at all; revelry, a party, who’s it for? I can’t take this anymore. What are these sounds, voices that cry, and wake the slumber from my eyes; why do they always come for me, why can’t they leave and let me be! Or in the least, invite me too, but who, indeed, I have no clue.

I’ve heard them so many times before, so I sneak across the hallway floor; but, of course, there’s no one here, another nightmare, this I fear. I try to go back to my room, but stop, to smell the sweet perfume. Who is it, they, who wreck my sleep, and cause these visions, much too deep; I think it’s how they toy with me, I ponder a moment, then disagree.

Deciding, at last, I should ignore; I go back to my bed, but leave open, the door.

Author’s Note:  based on a true incident, a somewhat nightly occurrence.

The moments ticked away,
one last hour left, before
He’d roll over, to find her lying,
next to him, no more

+++

Pulled out his pocket watch, checked the time, and when
He thought he had plenty of it, he fell asleep, again
Jumped straight up, panicked, brushed his hand across the bed
She was still there with him, but, he had to clear his head

Of course he could, turn back time, yes, that’s how he’d do it!

Letting out a sigh of relief, he thought he almost blew it

Quietly, he opened the watch, to expose the delicate hands
Turned them counterclockwise, and thought himself quite grand.
But then he checked the watch again, it hadn’t moved a minute!
It was then, he must have realized, there was a dead battery in it!

How did he not know this, she couldn’t leave, before he told her

But it was already too late, she was gone, he couldn’t hold her

+++

She had her mind set, long ago, she seized the perfect chance
To leave him, she had had enough, this was her time to dance
See, she’s the one who took the battery out, he had no idea
She knew about his little tryst, with the local floozy, Sophia

No more late night playboys, this girl needed her own thrill

Donned her best, and headed out, tonight, was her time to kill.

Author’s Note:  Can you see her figure in the shape of the poem? This is called Concrete poetry or Shape poetry. (Probably seen better on a PC than a phone)  😉

We must always stay determined, and never hesitate

Striving to be much better, trying never to acclimate

In an effort to combine the lessons, learned from one another

We allow our fellow man to breathe, rather than to smother
