Her heart, ever singed

Our journey took us, far away, to the sea
Twilight had settled, on the captain and me
Moon lighted the way, though we saw not ahead
The billowing clouds, that meant imminent dread
The sky was laced, with pinks and blues
Our sails, like bellows, held the wind, as it blew
We traveled through waters, so calm and serene
Merely ripples of waves, such a peaceful scene
But the darkness grew closer, as we sailed, on and on
Never again to been seen, in the light of the dawn

Ready to brave the lighted hall
He is cloaked in the darkest robe
Secretly hiding the treasure he holds
Carefully clutching, the tiny glass globe
Shimmering liquid, the color of green
Reflects off the tiles, straight ahead
Hoping he makes it past, this way
He fears now, where he must tread
Getting caught would be his undoing
They’d surely give him the noose
Footsteps echo, seems he’s been caught
All for the taste of Chartreuse

The winds cut through my skin
These old bones begin to shake
I can feel the cold within
Chattering, my teeth
As they play a musical tune
“Summertime” I hear them say
And it can’t come too soon
Age has taken hold of me
I like the cold no more
So I’ll curl up by the fireplace
Let it warm me to the core
