I see you every evening, when I close the light

Darkness in my doorway, lurking in the night

What is it you’ve come for, what is it you need?

You don’t answer, but my sleep, you do impede

I try to close my eyes a bit, yet, I can still see

Your shadow lurking in the night, making fun of me

But I can’t hear your laughter, I can’t hear your voice

I try to block you out of my mind, as if I have a choice

You can leave now, go on, and just let me go to sleep

So I can dream of shadows…

…that around my bedroom, creep

Colleen’s challenge for us this week are the words Cold and Storm.  Remember, you can only use synonyms to write your poetry!

Written as a Nonet, my synonyms are Raw and Disturbance.

Such disturbance, I have never felt
Penetrating, my inner thoughts
Festering, this wound, bleeding
Revealing, my self-doubt
Seizing, the moment
Until at last
Defeated
I am
Raw

Once upon a never, such moments, lived in strife

She’s always chasing rainbows, lost in another life

Dreams become illusions, fantasy fills her days

Leaving her wanting, and restless, in so many ways

Stuck inside, a mindless state, impatiently, she waits

For emptiness to fill the hours that time cannot abate

She snickered as she ran, until she noticed, behind her

The one thing she’d forgotten, was trying to remind her

It sent bands of colors, wrapped them around the air

She tried to keep running, but knew she shouldn’t dare

She turned, and watched it, slowly hit the ground

With a thunderous thud, that echoed, quite profound

The moon had finally landed, left Earth to float alone

The sun had drifted farther, chilled her to the bone

Darkness filled the sky, no more light did moon shed

Now laid still, upon the soil, the golden orb was dead

Stars flickered and cried, with the night…

…to mourn the parting of the light

She froze, like frost on blades of grass, in morning

No need to venture farther, she’d heed this final warning

Footsteps, in the distance, she was not there alone

Was that a floorboard creaking, or a wandering spirit’s moan?

Stretching out, listening, hoping she could hear

Shrinking back against the wall, all she felt was fear

Thumping getting louder, twas the pounding of her heart

Knowing she’d no time to waste, this demon she’d outsmart

Bathed in sweat, shivering, her clothes now soaked, it seemed

Waking up, inside her head, afraid of her own dream
