I am but a face
Haunting, in the hours
When dawn arrives
Christening branches
With golden light
That shines through
My skin, illuminating
The details of a life
Hidden, nestled in
Darkness, breathing
Forests, barren of
Leaves that dangle
Thoughts and dreams
Penetrating souls
Until morning places
Its spirit aside, allowing
Translucent glimmers,
To fade away into
Ebony skies, with me
A specter, awaiting
To frighten the night

In muted tones
Unheard choirs
Of nature’s pure bliss
Held quietly
In the morning light
As dawn reaches
Into shades of white

In darkness unknown
Unheard choirs
Left to reminisce
Held quietly
As dreams take flight
And dawn reaches
Into shades of night

It’s late
Rain splashes
Against the pane
A haunting sound
In this darkened night
The wind, nonexistent
Yet it rattles the glass
Upon which I rest my face
Cold seeps in, relentless
To my already aching bones
The fire, crackling,
Hissing, next to me
Offers no warmth
Reluctant to move
From the window
I sit, shivering
And watch
As my tears
Roll by
