She lifts

The midnight sky

With a touch of her hand

Allowing the light to shine through

Morning

As the darkest day ends, fleeing

Seeking newer places

To claim its own

She smiles

Dripping, soggy, and wet, from nature’s sneeze

Leaves, soaked in dew, a brisk morning breeze.

Glistening light, from soft rays of the sun

Another day of beauty, has nearly begun

Sun rises ever quickly, against a muted sky

Brings about warmth, and with her, I sigh

Each morning, when I awaken, with eyes wide

I thank the Lord, for another day, diversified.

Waves, against the sand, the tide rolls in

As I walk along the beach, this summer day

The pier, in the distance, waits in hazy morn

The softening day, through the clouds, allay

Tones of pink, against gray, night dissipates

Coloring the skies, with my favorite hues

Reeds blow gently, in the hush of the breeze

Shadows creep quietly, then, slip from view

The taste of the sea, the salt in the air

Memories, of my childhood, spent there

To go back, and relive, those days in the sun

Lazily walking, until the daylight is done

Bathed in warmth, they smile

Illuminated by morning’s light

Happy to stay there for awhile

Still sleepy-eyed, from the night

Beauty, like a picture, painted

A sight to behold, in symmetry

Lazing softly, remains untainted

Tis nature’s perfect poetry

Morning’s Light ~ #Tanka #PoetryChallenge

It’s the first challenge of February, and Colleen lets us pick our own words!  Synonyms are not necessary but I used them anyway. Keeping with the love theme, this week, my words are Arouse and Glow. Although I’ve used then in a different context.  😉

Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Awakened and Light.

Clouded skies part ways

When, at last, the morning breaks

And my sun shines high

Tis then I am awakened

By the glory of the light
