I have not forgotten
That I was forsaken
I am simply biding my time
With each moment passing
It simply escapes me
It has no reason, nor rhyme

Hours rush by
Without a second thought
Minutes all jumble together
Sorting it out
Seems worthless to me
Just another storm I must weather

Clouded judgement reigns
Through the ebon night
Scars settle deep in my heart
The power within
Has, at last, petered out
Not sure I’ve the will to restart

Years, again, flash
Becoming a blur
Thoughts, left scattered, unsown
Perhaps for the best
For the sake of my soul
All should remain unknown

Locked away safely
In my own little world
Fighting the storms to the last
Demons unleashed
In a whirlpool of terror
And I wonder if this, too, shall pass.

Glares, thrown like daggers
Impossible to ignore
Oblivious, they scorn with hate
Or maybe they’re not
Wide eyed, they inflict
Successfully sealing my fate.

“You okay?” He asks,
“Swell”, my reply,
While wistfully staring,
And wondering why

He’d bother to ask,
Does he really care?
Or is it just habit,
Because I am there.

Time spent together,
In silence, creeps by.
No matter how much,
I just no longer try

To engage conversation,
From one, far away,
Who turns off the chatter,
Doesn’t hear what I say.

Perhaps it is me,
Who doesn’t quite hear
The words, left unsaid,
Though, the meaning is clear

So I bury myself,
In a place, tucked away
Where the silence is deafening,
But the Lord hears me pray.

Into the Abyss – #haibun – #senryu – #poetry challenge

Colleen’s poetry challenge for this week is Poet’s Choice. I chose to write a Haibun/Senryu.

Through the darkness of morning, a shrill sound breaks the silence. I am startled, groggy, finally realizing it’s the telephone ringing. I answer to hear apologies for waking me, as she rambles on about another place. She doesn’t care for where she is. She only knows she has to move.

I cannot go through this again. The last time nearly buried me. Still, I feel myself sinking further down, into that abyss, with no hope of seeing the light again.

Self-preservation
My anomaly exposed
Battles for the win

Lines, once hidden,
Have grown bolder now;
No way to hide them,
Can’t disavow.

Months of worry,
This illness claimed;
To live with this,
A horrid change.

Takes courage to fight,
The strange, unknown;
A weakness,
I must not condone.

Make time to rebuild,
No reason to preclude;
Dreams, tucked away,
Need be, pursued.

Not sure where I’ll land,
Nor at what stage;
But this much I know,
I have surely aged.

Cluttered, empty spaces, found, but left unkempt

Emotion thrown, strewn about, in moral contempt

Answers, unquestioned, doubt exuded, within

Why on Earth am I? And where shall I begin?

To put the broken pieces, puzzled, back together

No help, those, who only dwell in fairest weather

White clouds follow, over me, pours down the rain

Why is it, no matter what, praise becomes disdain?

Received, but never sent, animosity finds its space

However small, to penetrate, a sacred inner place

To smash the dreams, so broken, and overrun

Now I see where I am. And why I have begun.
