Off in the distance, hiding by a tree
Sal T. Coyote, waits, impatiently
He knows soon, dinner will arrive
Then he can feed his hungry wives

So they’ll stop nagging, making noise
At last, he can hang out, with the boys
Every day, around quarter past four
The roadrunner speeds by, with a roar

He has to time it perfectly, otherwise
This time he’ll surely meet his demise
Finally, he hears the familiar sound
A swoosh goes by, he hits the ground

And misses his prey, that’s nothing new
He can’t go home empty, he’ll be the stew
He gathers up leaves, and a bug or three
Heads back to his haven, behind the tree

Where he’ll stay, saddened, filled with malaise
Taunted by a roadrunner, til the end of his days

Meep! Meep!

She escaped the worst of it, she thought

Colored her locks, with classic brunette

Gave herself bangs, changed her attire

Still, she hadn’t gotten away, just yet

She laughed, when they all ran by her

On a bar stool she sat, happily perched

Confident now, she wouldn’t be caught

She smiled, as the whole town searched

Took on the human persona, quite pleased

With the way she had assimilated so well

Would she manage to remain one of them?

She had to be patient, only time would tell

Suddenly, something seemed different

She knew her disguise must have failed

They took her away, became belligerent

Down at the courthouse, she was jailed

Looks, can only be deceiving, for awhile

Eventually, your true colors come through

She tried to mirror humans, it’s better to not

There are some things, you can never undo

Whenever there’s a problem
We know just what to do
Pick up the phone, dial it out
Call in Jack, and his crew

Consisting of the following
A plunger and a wrench
If we keep our fingers crossed
He’ll rid us of this stench!!

Toilets always clog here
It seems like it’s a game
Still, it’s hard to point out
Who, really, is to blame!

The men swear it’s gremlins
Sneaking into the stalls
Such a silly thing to say
Gremlins don’t exist, at all

We can’t install a camera
Cause that’s against the law
Maybe it’s the manufacturer
Who sent one, with a flaw

It really doesn’t matter, right?
We will eventually figure it out
When the Ty-D Bol Man* surprises
And someone lets out a shout

Then we’ll nab the jokester
Who likes to stuff the bowls
We’ll put him to work, for Jack
Changing the toilet paper rolls

Spare the child
For she is
Too young
To know the truth
Too naïve
To understand
Why not
Blame yourself
Instead of
Putting her
In harm’s way
For the sake
Of your own
Insanity
Spare the child
Your drama
Self-centered
Never
Looked good
On you
Instead
Thank God
She grew
Into a woman
Self-confident
Not self-absorbed

Shameful

Devastation

Destroying, without care

No concern for another’s life

Humans

Author’s note: A careless flick of a match, or cigarette, or a campfire left smoldering, can potentially burn hundreds of thousands of acres, diminishing natural habitats for wildlife.. *Scientists don’t have any good estimates on the number of animals that die in wildfires each year. But there are no documented cases of fires—even the really severe ones—wiping out entire populations or species (Thank God!).  Of course, some animals do die in the smoke and fire—those that can’t run fast enough or find shelter. Young and small animals are particularly at risk. And some of their strategies for escape might not work—a koala’s natural instinct to crawl up into a tree, for example, may leave it trapped. *Info via National Geographic
