So many times
She masks the tears
Struggles to put
Aside her fears
Another day
A body broken
Nowhere to turn
No words are spoken
Wishes she
Could hide forever
Forget the pain
That leaves her, never
Cries in the night
From a voice unknown
An empty heart
She’s so alone
Is there no one to save
This embattled child
Abused, and wasted
Her body, defiled
To help her find
The one she’s lost
Her self-esteem
That’s long been tossed
Cradle her safely
With loving arms
Never again
Shall she know harm
It only takes one
To give her back herself
No more forgotten doll
Sitting there, on a shelf
She needs to know
There is more to this life
Than endless suffering
And intolerable strife…

Where wee ones close by
Sit and play
Without care
Knowing they are protected
By winged warriors

Child
Who is
Reflected
On the water
Bares her soul aloud
In the silence of night
As barren trees listen, watch
Her attention lies far away
Scattered thoughts unleash a roaring din
She wonders if the birds can hear them, too

Autumnal colors,
Russet and red,
Draped in a cape,
That covers her head.
She tucks inside,
The golden locks of hair,
Her mama told her,
To never bare.
A mist forms around her, ever so,
There, in the forest, unafraid, though.
They envelop her,
In a magical dance,
She smiles, happily,
This is not happenstance.
Knowing it is they,
Who come to call,
Every November,
Near the end of fall.
And this child awaits, ever patiently, their arrival,
For she counts on them, for her very survival…
