To take flight, into the vast unknown

With only my wings, to keep me aloft

Through the sky, a haven, in which I roam

Unafraid of the journey, into the wind, I waft

To let my body feel, as my soul ascends

And my heart, to know it’s on course

So abstractly, against the clouds, I blend

As from this Earth, I leave, with no remorse

Not much greenery left behind
As heat takes charge, of the land
One tree stands out, from them all
She fancies herself rather grand

Always posing, in mysterious ways
She likes to show off her style
Though the gray, has started to show
What is left, still makes her smile

A gust of wind, on the open range
And her hair blows, out of control
Withered, she bends, to the breeze
As the days start to take their toll

Ever ageless, though aging fast
From the wind, she no longer recoils
Counting the moments, until, at last
She returns, once again, to the soil

I found myself, alone, floating across the sea

In a tiny boat, I wondered what happened to me

The water, crystal clear, sparkled, like sunlit glass

Fish swam below me, schools of them, en masse

I couldn’t see anything, no matter where I looked

Suddenly, the calm receded, then the water shook

Up, from out of the ocean, a distant island appeared

At least I think it was, my eyesight, not quite clear

Palm trees swayed, in the breeze, atop a sandy shore

I shaded sun from my eyes, why couldn’t I see more?

Alas, I realized, this place, was all that had remained

Of Earth, of me and my boat, the rest is unexplained

She snickered as she ran, until she noticed, behind her

The one thing she’d forgotten, was trying to remind her

It sent bands of colors, wrapped them around the air

She tried to keep running, but knew she shouldn’t dare

She turned, and watched it, slowly hit the ground

With a thunderous thud, that echoed, quite profound

The moon had finally landed, left Earth to float alone

The sun had drifted farther, chilled her to the bone

Darkness filled the sky, no more light did moon shed

Now laid still, upon the soil, the golden orb was dead

Stars flickered and cried, with the night…

…to mourn the parting of the light

I found her lying ‘tween the clover

Then tiptoed, not to make a sound

Though fast asleep, I could feel her

Heartbeat, pulsing, off the ground

Her essence left a heady fragrance

Lifted from the dampened earth

And I couldn’t help but wonder why

She chose this place to give it worth

So hidden, deep, within these woods

Where no one else could find her

A tired Mother Earth, took rest

As the beauty of land, entwined her
