She cries the tears
Of a thousand years
Unbeknownst,
To those around her.
Held in her heart,
Yet so far apart
Only anguish and sorrow
Surround her.

She can still feel the pain,
And then once again
It disappears,
As if it never happened.
But it returns soon enough,
And though she is tough,
Her heart remains
Broken and blackened.

Afraid of the day,
He comes back her way
She hides,
Where no one can find her.
Deep inside her own shell,
She’s living in hell,
And he’ll not be afraid
To remind her.

For once, they had loved,
Til he pushed and he shoved,
She could no longer
Keep it secluded.
The scars she now bore,
Her own personal war,
A soul stripped of life
And denuded.

Talk to me, I can ease your pain

I promise, he won’t hurt you again

No more hands, will strike you down

This cruelty ends, when hope abounds

Protect your heart, from this agony

And finally breathe, let your spirit free

To live your life, unafraid of the dark

Where brutality can no longer leave a mark

Find the place, to let your soul arrive

Somewhere, anywhere, you will survive!

He cannot hurt what he doesn’t own

You, one so beautiful, must not condone

Who you are, praise, what you become

Rid yourself of that which leaves you numb

It’s in you, seek out your true happiness

Forget about him, and all his crappiness

Remember these words, no more need for dread

Never again, shall you fear, where monsters tread

***On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.*** (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence)

#BookReview – “Memoir of Mad Woman” by Vashti Quiroz-Vega

What Amazon Says:

A novelette from the award-winning author of The Fall of Lilith and Son of the Serpent, Vashti Quiroz-Vega.

Who can explain how madness begins?

This is the story of Emma. Reared by a religious fanatic, orphaned at a young age and sent to a mental institution and an orphanage. Molested and betrayed by the people who should be watching over her…

Who can say that madness has no logic? To Continue reading on Amazon, click here

My Review

There truly aren’t enough adjectives to describe the emotions this writer portrays in this heart-wrenching memoir. This novelette really packs a punch.

Told through the eyes of a tortured soul, Quiroz-Vega takes you on the journey of Emma, starting with her lack of parenting, through the horrible atrocities brought against her, in an orphanage, filled with back-stabbing friends and out of control adults, then finally, to Emma’s solutions to the problems.

The imagery in this story is spectacular. This is a very dark tale, one I found so riveting, I could not stop reading it. I have to admit, there were times I was cheering for this poor child, and at the same time, admonishing her for not taking the proper course to solving her dilemmas. I won’t go any further, except to say, I highly recommend this book. This is my first read by Vashti Quiroz-Vega, but it certainly will not be my last!!

Locked away, a mind, alone
Why she’s here, must not be condoned

They took her, from her family, where
She lived, in sin, a life, unfair

Mother made her wash the beds
Father, made her lie, instead

Abused, now merely an empty shell
How could he put her through this hell?

A man, she trusted, left her bare
Tangled up, in strands of hair
He laughed, as she cried, in despair
Wishing to wake from this nightmare

One day, she ran, into the street
Finally admitting, this was her defeat

Calamitous screams, they ran to her side
Standing there naked, she’d no sense of pride

Sirens came calling, the jury was heard
Guilty, they said, was the only word

Grateful, she smiled, for saving her life
No longer abused, no longer in strife

Scared for Good ~ #poetry #dark

In a darkened place, beside a tree
A rusted, old, antiquated jalopy
Sat with no driver, appeared empty
Not really sure how this could be

The headlights were on, beaming
Light through the fog, streaming
In the distance, someone screaming
Please wake me up, I must be dreaming!

This nightmare has gone too far
I can’t get away, from this wicked car
I’m not even sure where we are!
This whole thing is quite bizarre

Wait. What do I mean saying we?
All this time, I thought, it’s only me
I’m not really sure what it is I see
But this forest has become too creepy

Half asleep, I try to make my way back
Through the foggiest mist, in the black
Of night, where the spirits always attack
And I find myself, way off track

Fumbling around, looking for light
Not another soul, within my sight
Thank goodness, that would be a fright
If someone else, came out, in the night

Running blindly, through the wood
Flashbacks of evil, a lost childhood
I’d awaken myself, if I could
Nightmares keep you, scared, for good
