Join me every day at Noon EST for the continuing adventures of the bungling detective, N. Owl, in her quest to bring the mastermind, ~M, to justice!  If you’ve  missed any episodes, you can find them HERE!

Walt pulled a real humdinger. He made sure Sarah C gave ~M the pie that was tainted with sleeping powder. Knowing she would be suspicious of anything he gave her, he recruited Sarah from the local office and worked it out with the owner of the bar. Turns out, the only music playing was a loud stereo system. The bar had been closed for months now.

Taking the opportunity to investigate ~M’s home, Walt carried her to the car, buckled her in, (safety first, ya know), and headed back to town. He radioed me to let me know the plan had succeeded and he was on his way. I had no idea what he was talking about. He never let me in on it. . On the way past the bar, Walt threw something out the window. The place went up like a volcano erupting. His fancy for the flame had gotten the best of him. The bar was a pile of ash in no time, leaving no evidence behind as to what might have happened nor who did it.

We met up at ~M’s. We had to be careful because we knew her daughters were home. Picture if you will, myself, Walt, Cory, Fred and Mildred, sneaking into an occupied space, trying to be quiet. Yeah, I can’t picture it either. When all of us finally entered, we split up in five directions, hoping one of us would find out exactly what ~M was up to, and stop her before anything happened. We also had to remember the sleeping powder wouldn’t last forever. We were on borrowed time, so we had to shake our tail feathers. No messing around, no mistakes. Like that will ever happen, I said, as I tripped up the stairs. Mad skills, I tell ya!

Oh! You might be wondering what happened to Sarah C, since Walt torched the building. No worries. She was long gone and back at base before the first spark ignited.

Mother Nature Rebels ~ #poetry of a #storm

The sunlight fades, ever fast, away

As darkening clouds, obscure the day

Bringing daggers, lights against the gloom

With a thunderous roar, and shattering boom

Over the lands, to quench an insatiable thirst

Pelting down, from the skies, a raucous cloudburst

Flooding over the streets and sidewalks, where

People run to escape, this torrential nightmare

The falling of the rain is, how Mother Nature rebels

Until she’s had enough, then, the rain she will quell

Author’s Note:  I wrote this while listening to a thunderstorm.  The skies opened up and it poured!!  I love writing to that sound   🙂

Flaky and Filling ~ On the trail of a mastermind – #JulyWriting

“Did you bring me out here to romance me? I don’t even know you!” ~M screamed above the music.

“I was hoping to have a nice dinner out here. I thought the candles would add to the atmosphere. I am a poet, a romantic. I’m sorry if I offended you, my dear lady.” Walt said, trying to find a way to calm her down. But ~M kept her distance from him, and he could feel the cold emanating off of her. He offered her a seat, on a blanket the bar had laid down, by the candles. Since there was really nothing else to do, she sat.

Walt raised his hand and a woman, dressed rather nicely considering the venue, came over to them and asked if she could get them a cocktail from the bar. The name on her tag said Sarah C. She was the manager of the place and Walt had her at his disposal. They ordered drinks and off she went.

“What about dinner?”

“I took the liberty of having something prepared for us. I hope you like my choice.”

~M looked even more upset than before. A man she did not know, took her to a place she did not know and ordered for both of them, God only knows. She sighed. The candles gave off a warm glow and she figured she might as well enjoy it. But she kept her guard up. Shortly after their drinks arrived, dinner was brought out. They were tiny meat pies adorned with roses made from the crust. Ugh, she thought, more romance from a stranger.

~M decided she would test Walt. She stuck her fork into the flaky pie crust, scooped out some of the meat filling and offered it to him. Walt was unsure what ~M was up to until he realized she was trying to see if dinner was laced with something that would knock her out. Making him eat it first would let her see she was wrong. So he took the fork from her and ate the food on it. Remarking how really good it was, he then offered her a bit of his own. She never expected what would happen next.

A Lullaby of Strings ~ #poetry

She serenades the sun to sleep
With a lullaby, from her strings

Her music floats, into the air
Takes flight, on angel’s wings

It floats among the heavens
On the tails, of passing clouds

As sunlight fades into the night
She is blanketed, with a shroud

Of darkness, it settles over her
Yet, she continues to play her song

Knowing soon the moon will rise
Tis who she plays for, all along
