Left on the road, smack dab, in the middle
In her hands, with a map, she anxiously did fiddle

Trying to make sense, of all the lines and curves
This whole mystery, was getting on her nerves

There had to be a way, to get to where she needed
Should’ve paid attention, to the old man’s words, heeded

He told her not to travel, down this dusty trail
Perhaps another way, her plans, she should curtail

There had to be an answer, on this map, somewhere
That would get her to Da Vinci’s, in the town square

But there was no square to speak of, no town did exist
Just a farm, vacated, maybe help, she should enlist

Unsure of where to turn to, or how to find someone
She decided to go west, and follow the setting sun

But first, she had to find a way, to lighten her heavy load
Left everything she owned, on the side of Da Vinci Road

Years gone by, they still recall, how she disappeared that day
And how they tried to warn her, much to their dismay

No one travels the path anymore, no one dares to go
They know better, to steer clear, or death, it will bestow

So many today, can be considered quite cynical

As they graduate up, trying to reach a new pinnacle

Each one thinking, their opinions are the best

I can’t help but laugh, because surely they jest

The lovely Helene of Willow Poetry has challenged us with “What do you See?”.  You may write a poem, haiku, tanka or short story that represents what you see or feel within you.  More info can be found in the link below.

Old and frail she climbs

Each step harder than the next

She is determined

The top seems so far away

But, oh the reward that waits

                ~~~
Touching the heavens
The fruit of her labor shines
A glorious sight
She smiles when she reaches it
Content, she withers away
The
Faces
Remain here
Haunting my soul
Each one different
But still the same being
This, the house where I grew up
No longer holds fond memories
Instead it bears the marks of a child
Forgotten, alone, fending off evil
An evil that still dwells inside of it
How I long to rid myself of it
Banish it to another world
Yet, I remain stuck within
A gruesome gabled home
With fiendish faces
Always ogling
Rescue me
Fondly
Anne
For years I’ve written about fortitude
Though, I may never welcome fame
As a person, I’d much rather be viewed
As someone who’s conquered the pain
