Each strand so carefully
Strung on the tree
I would watch her in awe
And all I could see

Was the loving expression
On her smiling face
Nana knew exactly
How the tinsel should place

One silver thread
On each limb of pine
Another laid gently
So neat and so fine

For hours she’d continue
In her spirited way
So perfection would greet us
On that Christmas Day

She’d turn on the lights
Such a sight to behold
The sparkle of Christmas
Would never grow old

How I miss those days
How I miss you, sweet Rose
You decorated my heart
This, Heaven surely knows

siren-1191032_960_720Her calling brings longing
To souls lost at sea
Songs of the Siren
She sings them for thee

For men and their ships
Who have sailed to the deep
She callously draws them
Into eternal sleep

With songs from the bottom
Of a watery grave
They’re captured by beauty
Forever enslaved

And though they all know
These tales of the brine
Still they go searching
Time after time….

Swept away, with the rush of the wind

Thoughts are scattered, then rescind

Words, once written, striped the page

Letters danced, in spasmodic ways

Cursive lines fell, in scriptive tones

To tell the tale, from flesh and bone

Penned in mystery, forever untold

Vanished, only for the wind to behold

Swept away once more, in a blustery gale

Scattered thoughts, again, shall always prevail

shoe-tree-002
Gathered round this old tree
So many tales to tell
Whispering the journeys
Of the ones it knows so well

Tied about its weathered limbs
Knotted cotton laces
If you look closely at them all
You’ll surely see the faces

Of children laughing merrily
While dancing in the sun
Barefooted in the meadow grass
Until the day is done

Then late at night when all is calm
And no one’s round to hear
The elfin folk gather soles
Then quickly disappear

They carry them throughout the woods
To those who need them more
Gently placing each worn pair
Outside a cottage door

Then back into the forest
Before the morning light
Where they must wait impatiently
To return again at night

This poem was inspired by Belinda’s, of Busy Mind Thinking, photograph, and her thoughts about the shoes that have been disappearing.  I hope I did it justice 🙂  Thank you, B, for allowing me to use your photo and run with it!! ❤
