I used my trusty compass to navigate, across the ocean blue

I brought along my mentor, so he could show me what to do

He pointed out all kinds of things, like the fish, and birds

Then said, “the sky’s the limit”, and in my soul, something stirred

My dear friend Kevin invited me to participate in Tell The Story Challenge II.

The rules are simple:
Present a picture, and then tell the story about it. It can be as short or as long as you like. Nominate at least 3 people to write a story based on any of the pictures you choose to share.

Here is my take on the picture I chose:

Safely Tucked Away

Ah, the beauty of safely tucking myself away, watching the golden sunset, and finding peace. It’s not always easy, being out here, in the middle of nowhere. I often find myself talking aloud, but there is no one here to reply. Some think it insane I should choose to live like this. I find it refreshing, away from the city, the dirt and grime of the streets. Here lies purity. Gentle waters kissed by the sun, the fiery color of the twilight, graced by a flock of birds. I imagine they are headed home for the evening, after a long day. Ah, a long day…

Every day is long for me. I can do nothing much except fish for my food, and simply watch the ocean ripple by. Nary has a boat passed this way. I wonder if they remember I am here. No worries, though, tonight, I will sit and watch the sky, kiss the sun goodbye, and pray morning graces my eyes. And if not, I will have no regrets, only that I couldn’t say goodbye to you…

*****************************

Below are the pictures I’ve chosen for my nominees. Please feel free to join in the fun if you are reading this.

To my nominees… I can’t wait to read your creative stories…

I no longer need this boat, to carry me on my way

I simply float on waters, under feathered clouds, gray

And yet there is this color, it shines, within the dark

One calling, aloud, my name, singing sweetly, as a lark

Who must be hiding in the trees, lining these waters, afar

I wonder, does he sing for me, or is he wishing me au revoir

As I glide about, in my boat, I see my lantern start to dim

Sailing, into the shining light, I leave behind, a phantom

Singing sweetly, from a limb

Driftwood ~ #poetry #Afterwards

What tales can you tell, and how far did you roam?

Tossed about, in the waves, collecting the foam

Sifted, with the sands, tis where you lay, in waste

How sad, the rest of you, must have been misplaced

Drifting on the open waters, tarnished by the sea

Do you wonder where, and why, this is your place to be?

You wait, and hope, for someone, to find you most attractive

Perhaps a coffee table piece, one that’s quite abstractive

I think I rather like the way, you look here, on the beach

I’ll tuck you underneath the rocks, and keep you out of reach

From the tides that wander in and out, with never any care

I don’t wish them to take you back, they have had their share

I changed my mind, I’ll take you, I know the perfect place

You can decorate my garden, tucked in the perfect space

I found myself, alone, floating across the sea

In a tiny boat, I wondered what happened to me

The water, crystal clear, sparkled, like sunlit glass

Fish swam below me, schools of them, en masse

I couldn’t see anything, no matter where I looked

Suddenly, the calm receded, then the water shook

Up, from out of the ocean, a distant island appeared

At least I think it was, my eyesight, not quite clear

Palm trees swayed, in the breeze, atop a sandy shore

I shaded sun from my eyes, why couldn’t I see more?

Alas, I realized, this place, was all that had remained

Of Earth, of me and my boat, the rest is unexplained
