I should really
be in bed
but sleep escapes
and I’m awake instead

Too many words
that need to flow
I remember when
they told me so

If you start writing verse
in every way
it’s all that you’ll do
from dusk til day

For it’s in the wee hours
of the night, I seize
as I let my fingers
stroke the keys

With a clacking noise
in the quiet night
the sound of poetry
at last, I write

Releasing words
of this, I vow
til morning wakes
tis my bedtime now

It’s hard to believe it’s the end of April and another #NaPoWriMo has come to an end.  I’ve enjoyed writing a poem a day for 30 days.  I hope you enjoyed reading them  ❤

The sweet bird of spring

With such melodious joy

Sings, praising nature

What could that sound possibly be?
Perhaps it’s a branch from the old oak tree

I don’t know, mommy, it sounds very scary
Don’t worry, honey, maybe it’s a fairy!

No, they don’t make a howling noise
Oh? Maybe it the neighbor’s unruly boys

No, no, it’s not them, they’re fast asleep
Don’t cry, my daughter, no need to weep

I’m frightened by whatever is making that sound
Why, it’s only the wind, its voice, quite profound

Days Grow Dim ~ #NaPoWriMo #darkpoetry

I can feel the soothing drops of rain

Seeping through the pores of my skin

Washing away the hurt and pain

Cleansing my soul, from deep within

Reaching inside, I drown in my sorrow

Letting it dwell, in a pool of my blood

Wondering, will I see tomorrow?

I open my heart, to let in the flood

That swiftly carries my lifeless limbs

Down a river that has no name

Tis then I realize, my days grow dim

Once again, I’m the one who’s to blame

In front of the iron gateway

She stood, thinking about her life

She was once a princess, fair

Now a woman, filled with strife

Things were becoming impossible

With each day, she tried to decide

Should she open up the bars?

And step into the realm, on the other side?

Something told her, she’d better chance it

Dare not leave a dragon, waiting for his bride

One last glance, then through the doorway

Uncertainty leaving her, by the wayside
