In the quiet of night
Only the hum of my PC
Breaks the silence.
Still, I can hear her.
A tiny voice, crying out
In the dark, frightened
To come in, to the light
By which I write.
I tell her not to be afraid
I will not hurt her
Like the others did
She whispers, softly
So I do not hear her
Only the sighs of a child
And she is gone
Though I don’t know where
And I sigh, for her spirit
Hoping it has found
The door that leads
To eternal peace

Author’s note:  This poem is based on a true experience.  I have had many encounters with the spirit world.  I have been told I may be Clairsentient.  All I know is this little girl was looking for hope.  I hope I gave that to her…

Colleen has given us the words Afraid and Grave for this week’s challenge.   Remember, you can only use synonyms to write your poetry!  I used Catacombs and Frightened.   🙂

Buried deep in earth

Lie the catacombs of death

Apprehension dwells

Dare I seek absolution

Or be frightened evermore

What could that sound possibly be?
Perhaps it’s a branch from the old oak tree

I don’t know, mommy, it sounds very scary
Don’t worry, honey, maybe it’s a fairy!

No, they don’t make a howling noise
Oh? Maybe it the neighbor’s unruly boys

No, no, it’s not them, they’re fast asleep
Don’t cry, my daughter, no need to weep

I’m frightened by whatever is making that sound
Why, it’s only the wind, its voice, quite profound

I had to lock my doors,

There was no end in sight

From the horrors that played

In the cold of the night

I no longer wished, nor did I care

As long as I, was safely where

They never can find me, I’m hiding

Those voices inside of me, chiding

Tried to lure me out, with a hideous shout

Oh, the terror was just not subsiding

So I’m stuck behind this wooden door

I’ve no choice, I have to stay

Here, no one else can find me

And I like it, just that way

He scattered my thoughts

Paled the vivid colors, blocked,

Then frightened away my dreams

He was darkness, the ebony night;

Chasing shadows round my head,

His visions, quite obscene

Like a nightmare, far too real;

My slumber, shackled,

Chained, within my silent scream

He held the key, I’m no longer free

From the darkness of my memory
