If you see the headlights coming
A smoke stack, billowing high
Racing across the frozen lands
Then you’re watching an engine fly
Taken aback, you wonder
How does it move with no tracks?
Tis then you think you notice
This figure, there, riding its back
You blink your eyes, to focus
Is that a cowboy hat and a big cigar?
Rumored to show up, each Halloween
Riding atop his black metal car
And just like that, he’s gone
You’ll have wait another year
To see this ghostly train go by
With its trusted engineer…unless
Clickity clack, along no track
Once you board, you never come back…

The light from tower’s windows gleam
Take heed, the house, isn’t what it seems
In fact, it is more a nightmarish dream
When it drifts into your slumber
She floats atop the castle crown
This spirit, donned, in ethereal gown
So painful, the look, her face, a frown
As she seeks to disencumber
Full moon lights her ghostly frame
The raven flies, her soul to claim
Dare not point, nor place the blame
When demons, pursue, outnumber
For there is no human left in she
Life’s torture, all lies, brought insanity
This spirit, longing, to be set free
To leave this world, in pieces, asunder

The crevices cracked further, with every loud thud. Walls crumbled, as large chunks of drywall fell from the ceiling. Something sinister was going on in the upstairs apartment. Just one person couldn’t make that racket.
They moved in a week ago. Jerry was transferred, his company suggesting this place. It seemed nice, and they settled in. One night, the sound, deafening, began, continuing until it got the response it was waiting for.
An eerie feeling came over Sandy, sending shivers down her spine. Glancing upward, she saw two eyes, staring at her, blank, cold, and lifeless.
They left everything behind.
