This incredible picture was taken from a rooftop, in Westchester, NY, by my dear friend, Ed “Brother Bud” Bates. Used with permission.

Beyond these forest lands, there lays
A frozen village, touched by rays
Encased in ice, nothing can be seen
It’s most ethereal, out of a dream

Skies of blue, touched by clouds
Overcast heavens, that shout aloud
The wild life’s echoed sound of joy
As warmth from the sun, completes its ploy

To melt away, these frozen limbs
Embrace the spirits, deep within
Then listens, as the forest fills with voices
The woodland, ever jubilant, rejoices

Knowing, this is only temporary
For Mother Nature, is quite contrary
And in a flash, she changes speeds
The whispering winds, planting seeds

While we await, the first of spring
To celebrant, every living thing
That comes back to life, as we espy
Preserved, a wilderness, beneath the sky

Enchantment waits in ebon flight
A raptor takes his place
Guided by the maiden’s light
In this mysterious place

Upon her shoulder he does rest
To wait the next command
A silent chant from ruby lips
Awakens where she stands

Fairy lights from her lantern glow
Fueled by the maiden’s plight
They must find the one she loves
In the darkness of the night

Yet, Enchantment waits in ebon flight
With a destiny to foretell
“I am the one you are waiting for,
This owl, now rapt in your spell.
I’ve traveled back from whence I came,
To light your lantern once again”

In the forest trees

The winds, whisper in silence

Their hidden secret

Life in the shadows, child of night,

Ventures forth, as curiosity calls.

Stopping in her tracks, mesmerized

As the sun on her face, does fall

Frocked in tulle, a ballerina babe

Enchanted by the forest, she waits.

Flickers of light, against the trees,

Eyes become wider, pupils dilate.

She hesitates, afraid to go further,

Yet, something draws her into it,

A recollection of happier ways

In dreams, one must simply pursue it.

Come, child, it said,

Follow the rays.

Let the light guide you,

Through the darker days.”

Dancing Spirit – #poeticprose #poetry

A tale once told, of a spirit old, left goosebumps, up and down my arms; he would dance in the wood, every chance that he could, and never would he ever do harm. In and out of the brush, with a whoosh and a rush, Fred Astaire-like, with all his charm; though I’ve never really been, exactly where he’s seen, I was told there’s no cause for alarm.

He’s the sage of the forest, and although he’s no florist, he can make everything look grand; just by running about, such a natural sprout, it’s all done with a wave of his hand. Next time you come through, remember what to do, look for the one passing by; he’ll frolic and play, oh, but, then run away, all in the blink of an eye.
