Stop! Right there, it’s a big mistake!
We are definitely not dinner for you
Go find another to make you a steak
Better yet, go eat a vegetable, or two

We’re a happy couple, the bull and I
We like laying around in the grass
But humans, in the blink of an eye
Don’t care about being so crass

Seriously, folks, go try something new
Wake up your taste buds, delight them!
Perhaps some kale or broccoli will do
Go on, go ahead, and just bite them!

Forget about meat, no burgers, no veal
Peppered steak, is not on the menu
Veggies will do, for your very next meal
A baked potato, a salad, and tofu

C’mon, can’t you see how cute we are
Just laying here, together, we plead
We’re too young, to write our memoir
Leave us be, or we’ll surely stampede!

I was hungry one day, not much in the house
Walked into the kitchen, met up with a mouse
Seems he was looking, for the same thing as I
Sorry, little buddy, nothing here, so goodbye

He scurried about, then was off on his way
Hoping I wouldn’t see him, for the rest of the day
I opened the fridge, to figure out what I had
Lettuce, some cheese, a tomato, not bad

I even found ham, and a burger roll to boot
Started making my lunch, when I heard a horn toot
My neighbor stopped by, new car, shiny black
Waved her off with a smile, as I had to get back

To finishing my sandwich, my belly couldn’t wait
But the mouse found it first, too bad it’s not bait
He poked his head out, from between the layers
Seems my little buddy, turned into a betrayer

Took a wedge of cheese, I had tossed in the can
Put it on the counter, hoping he’d be a fan
After all, what rodent, doesn’t like cheese
A nice of chunk of Swiss, would surely please

Then, just when I thought, I had him trapped
He ducked back in my sandwich, and I snapped!
How dare he take, what was left of my kitchen?
Was he laughing at me, when at him I was bitchin’?

I’ll fix him, I said, as I threw out my sandwich
And with it, little buddy, I tossed him, he’s banished
But silly old me, now I’ve nothing to eat
That four legged critter, somehow, had me beat

Cause he was munching my lunch, the one in the trash
Chomping away, I could hear his teeth gnash
A lesson learned, from this food stealing mouse
Never let them live, as a guest, in your house

No matter what he typed on the screen
He’d get the same answer, every time
Seems his tablet had a mind of its own
Especially as the dinner bells would chime

It’s Tuesday, you know what that means
It kept reminding him, all day long
Though he’d always try to ignore the pangs
He knew, he really wasn’t that strong

Eventually, he would have to give in
And make his way to the local eatery
Where he’d sit and order his favorite meal
Three beef tacos and some beanery

This would, of course, explain it all
Poor guy, surely has my sympathy
It’s quite hard to ignore a computer
That constantly uses taco telepathy

Laid out on the table, for dinner

A plate of artichokes, and anchovies

Mom always scurried, around the kitchen

Singing her heart out, to Jon Bon Jovi

We didn’t have the courage to tell her

How much we disliked this combination

In fact, we didn’t want to eat either of them

But dear Mom, was so filled with elation

So we stomached the food before us

Though we tried to feed it to George, our pup

But he knew better, when Mom made this dish

He’d rather have dog food, than throw up

Author’s note: I apologize to any Bon Jovi fans, but I couldn’t think of anything else that rhymed with anchovy lol

Fried Green Potatoes – #poetry #DecemberWriting

What started out as sandwich
Made with red ripe tomatoes
Turned into a festival
Of fried green potatoes

Have you ever heard of them?
Well, neither have I
Not sure I want to try it
Though I really don’t know why

How bad can they be?
After all, they’re fried
The best way to eat them
Among all I have tried

But the green has me bothered
I’ve never seen that before
Is it because they are moldy?
Kept too long in a drawer?

Perhaps I should slice them
See what’s hiding inside
Oh, nothing more than white
Seems the outside was just dyed

They cooked up rather nicely
Yes, the smell had me wooed
Cause now fried green potatoes
Are my new favorite food

P.S. The tomatoes are now ketchup  😉
