Never allow the light inside you, to die out, expire

Let it burn ever brightly, from the core of your soul

Where, not even an avalanche, can put out the fire

Watch your dreams soar, as you reach that goal!

So many times she would walk by that jar

The one they kept hidden, near the trees

And though they told her never to touch it

She did exactly what wasn’t meant to be

Quickly, gathering the jar, in her hands

She ran off, beyond her home and her kin

Sitting down, for just for a mere moment

Mesmerized by the light, emanating within

Curiosity, got the better of her, poor girl

Needing to know, if the fire would grow

Opening the lid, without warning, it flew

Escaping in the forest, as fast as it could go

A look of surprise came across her face

When she realized what she had done

The light of day, suddenly began to glow

From a jar, in the forest, of the rising sun

A braver attempt had never before been seen

There was a fire in the sky, hungry and mean

He stood high, on the ridge, watching below

Awaiting the hour, in which he knew, he must go

To the aid of the villagers, there would be no dispute

For this fiery menace, would soon know him, a brute

He was suited for battle, against a foe he knew not

With only a shield and spear, this Spartan, fraught

Did gather himself, and set off, across the land

With the power of the gods, at his command

He fought through the day, and just before night

He returned to the villagers, a welcomed sight

Once again, on the mountain top, he guards his keep

While the beast in the sky, is at last, fast asleep

Storm clouds gather, drowning light

Red, with a fire, burning bright

Lightning strikes, forms a power

Hell unleashed, upon this hour

Nowhere to turn, nowhere to run

This beast, engulfs the midday sun

Untamed, fangs bared, roaring about

No way to douse it, can’t put him out

He covets the skies, desires now met

Wicked is he, this firestorm threat

Wilted White Whiskers – #NovemberWriting #poetry

Santa gets tired, dodging fire
That burns in the fireplace, below
All decked out in his fleece
And a little goose grease
Down the chimney he’d slide, like a pro

Feeling the heat, from under his feet
He tried very carefully, you know
To avoid all the flames
Without cursing your name
Little children might hear him, ut oh!

Once he found the tree, quite merrily
He would stack the toys, not a sound
Did he make as he swayed
To the music they played
This house, his most favorite, around

Up the chimney, jumpin’ jiminy!
Halfway, the poor man became tilted
The fire, now roaring
Dear Santa, imploring
“Even my white whiskers have wilted!”

So please, remember, this December
To make sure that your chimney is cold
He’ll be happier, see
As he calls to you and me
“Merry Christmas, to all, young and old!”
