There must have been a thousand lights
At least that’s what it looked like to her
Mesmerized by the flames of the candles
Blending together, everything was a blur

With every flicker, she became more enrapt
Her eyes, focusing on the dancing yellow
Not hearing his footsteps come from behind
He caught her off guard, this quiet fellow

He smiled ever briefly, then tipped his hat
Explaining why he was there, that day
Lighting a candle, for his wife, who passed
He gently knelt on the altar, to pray

Feeling a strong connection to this stranger
He, a man, who surely loved his wife
She was compelled, to kneel down beside him
And contemplate her own fate, in the afterlife

December Writing Prompt – Transfixed by the lights, she never noticed he was there – Day 13/31

He who questions fate

Must find courage from within

When seeking answers

With each flickering flame, my years unfold

Tapering down, leaving days of untold

Dripping memories, of past events

Happier times, still I’m not quite content

Candelabra in hand, a welcoming light

The fire, still burning, with no end in sight

Celebrating the day, reaching for more

Wondering what this life has in store

As closer to Halloween, comes the time

Knowing I still haven’t yet reached my prime

So, I’ll blow out the candles, let the wax seal my fate

On this day in October, 2018, twenty-eight

In case you haven’t figured it out, today is my birthday. I originally posted this two years ago and have amended it to reflect this years date. I’m off for the day!  See you tomorrow  ❤

Melt Away the Pain ~ #poetry

Let me melt away the pain

That lingers on my skin

Let me release the sorrow

I hold, so deeply, within

Inches of this body writhes

As I try to hold it all together

But fate has dealt a mighty blow

And this life, I have to weather

Agony has set its pace, still

I continue, with all my might

To chase away the darkness

Choosing only to see the light

Certain Doom ~ #poetry

An open portal, a light shines through
Illuminating the walls, but who

Has opened up, this once locked door
And casts no shadow, upon the floor

No figure leaves its shape or form
Surely, this is not the norm

So I approach the space with care
Afraid, of what I might find there

Footsteps clack, upon the stone
Now I know, for sure, I’m not alone

And yet, there’s no one standing near
I wait, for someone to appear

Hold my breath, try not to blink
What little courage, begins to sink

The light, again, begins to grow
I turn, but there’s no place to go

Only one way out, the door, awaits
It seems, at last, I’ve sealed my fate

The signs, have all been crystal clear here
And now it seems, I’ll disappear here

I had no reason, to enter his tomb
The castle has spoken, my certain doom
