Rain slides down the window pane
Reminiscent of a waterfall
Cascading down the mountain side
Gathering below
Into a crystal lake
Inviting you in

path-736002_960_720aA light down a darkened path
beckons me to follow
As I approach
it flickers
making me stop, wait

Again it calls
I continue forward
not knowing what lies beyond
the blackness that settles around me

A light so bright, yet not
I cannot see past it
My eyes play tricks
seeing only what my mind allows
Fantasy settles in

It lures me
and I walk, following
unaware that I am pursuing
My darkest dreams
my biggest fears

I turn around, afraid
and find nothing
but the darkness in which I began
Yet sounds and shadows engulf me
in a sensory overload

And I freeze, unable to comprehend
all that is there
and not
Only to realize my existence
in my own imagination

I’d like to introduce you to Night Owl Poetry, a part of who I am.  An extension of my regular writing/blogging, my poems are both light and dark, happy and sad, they are reality and fantasy, they are you, and they are me.

The name Night Owl Poetry was a collective from my family.  The reason, well, it’s when I write.  Anywhere between midnight and 4AM, on any given night, you can find me typing away in my office.  Like now.  It’s 2:45AM, I published a new poem called Tainted, and here I am writing to you.  My family knows not to bother me, although they do check in once in awhile. They are my incredible support team 🙂

My poetry is simply me.  I hope you enjoy reading….

Do You Dream?

We all dream, don’t we?  Some say our dreams are past memories, some say they are predictions of the future or a glimpse of just tomorrow.  Do you know what your dreams mean?  Have you ever really thought about them?

People will tell you that they have dreamed they were falling, flying, running, driving.  Have you had a dream like this?  Do you fall?  Do you fly?  What are you running from?  Do you arrive safely at your destination or does your dream abruptly end before something can happen and you awaken?  Was it pleasant or a nightmare?

Wikipedia explains dream interpretations as this, “Dream interpretations date back to 5000–4000 BC. The earliest recorded dreams were acquired from materials dating back approximately 5,000 years, in Mesopotamia, where they were documented on clay tablets. In the Greek and Roman periods, the people believed that dreams were direct messages from the gods or from the dead, and that they predicted the future. Some cultures practiced dream incubation with the intention of cultivating dreams that are prophetic.“

Dr. Sigmund Freud claimed dreams were really our anxieties and desires coming through to us, an event that clearly showed reality, existence.

You may be wondering why I chose to write about dreams.  Yesterday, I fell asleep and dreamed I died.  It has been said that if you die in your dreams, you die in life.  Obviously, I did not or you would not be reading this story.  I’m beginning to think I’m a cat.  I have defeated death three times, four if you include this last encounter.  So why am I still here?  Most would tell you that my time here on Earth is not over.  That God has a specific purpose for me and I haven’t reached it yet.

I’m not really looking for answers to these questions.  Whatever lies ahead of me I embrace with open arms, and if that includes meeting my maker, then I shall be ready.  I’m just not ready right now; I still have a lot of living left to do.
