Although I have not been posting, I have been writing on and off.  So, once again,  I embark on a challenge that I began in 2016, promising myself to never miss National Poetry Writing Month.  I bring you Day One.

I grasp the air to stop it
Still it fades into darkest night
I reach up into emptiness
But I cannot grab the light

A misconception
Often hidden, a lie
Gathers swiftly
Tongues wag

Eager voices trill
Rapid babbles cut
The truth
No longer heeded

Scoffed, by they who
Know nothing, yet
Pretend to know
Deceive the trust

Once given freely
No longer begs the notion
Decline settled in
Aged , unforgiven

Authors note:  I am challenging myself to write 30 poems in 30 days.  It’s been a while since I put my writing first.  This feels wonderful!

She forgets the simple tasks
Ones performed most every day
Hiding cautiously, behind a mask
Knows, sometimes, life can be this way

Asks the same questions over
Then remembers, she already did
Confusion covers ground, like clover
As the memories start to skid

What’s today, she wonders aloud
The hours fly by, without worry
Afraid to ask, for she is too proud
Yet this time is becoming more blurry

A simple sigh, is all she can speak
Though her words are clear and concise
Aging, becoming fragile and weak
Growing old, she’s paying the price

The Easter Egg Hunt ~ #NaPoWriMo #AprilWriting

Mom sent me on an egg hunt
She said look for pretty colors

But all I really wanted was
My favorite breakfast crullers

She shooed me out the door
Told me to have some fun

Bring back lots of goodies
Enough for everyone

When I got back from the meadow
Mom said, Goodness! What a mess!

What happened, what did you do?
To your brand new Easter dress?

I tried explaining carefully, how
My basket became overloaded!

And when I tried to empty it
All the eggs inside exploded!

Mom looked at me rather strangely
Then a smile came to her face

Laughing she said, it looked much better
Then it did, in the dressmaker’s place

The Place Someone Called Home – #NaPoWriMo #poetry

Somewhere near the center

In a town much like your own

Lurking in the shadows, is

The place someone called home

Graffiti paints the outside

Where once the stone stood proud

Covered over by nature’s roar

Standing alone, now, in a crowd

Of wooden barriers hiding

Branches and trees converge

Should you find an entrance

I do hope you’ll soon emerge

For town folk tell the story

Of a spirit, there’s no doubt

Who lures you to explore within

But never lets you out
