Sunday’s delectable sweetness

Drizzled, in creamy perfection

All it needs is a cup of you

To complete this dreamy confection

A reason to wake in the morning

It’s like the sunrise on a gloomy day

Share with me, won’t you, please

Drop by for a nibble, and stay

Staggering Heights ~ #dark #fiction

The caffeine hadn’t kicked in yet. Even toothpicks wouldn’t have held these eyes open. They’d snap from the weight of my lids. Half asleep, I stood there, in a daze, trying to remember what had happened the night before. The elves, hammering away in my head, reassured me they hadn’t forgotten. These blackouts were becoming worrisome, not to mention altogether dangerous.

I glanced around the room, still not quite sure where I was. In the distance, I could make out the Manhattan skyline, lazily communing with the haze of morning. The view was a bit daunting, what with my fear of heights, which was rather quickly enveloping me. I turned around, knowing I probably needed more coffee to steady my nerves, and found I had already drained the pot.

My only recourse was to venture out into the noise of the morning commuters. I threw on some clothes, staggered out the door, stepped onto the elevator and fell 20 floors. Lying at the bottom of the elevator shaft, I had, at last, awakened.

Could this day be any worse for those

Who awaken in morning, preferring to doze

Only to find out, it’s Monday indeed

The weekend is over, this we concede

But wait, it gets worse, how can that be

Surely this Monday, is pure treachery

Disguised as a start, of things yet to come

We always believe, boy are we feeling dumb

So, on this day, when we all convene

We’ll fill up on baked goods, and tons of caffeine

Show him who’s boss, and should he rebuff

We’ll fire this Monday, enough is enough

I really should be fast asleep

It’s funny, I’m not tired

The night has taken over me

The light of day, expired

There’s a spider crawling up my wall
He doesn’t notice me at all

Perhaps he’s uninspired
By the fact that I’m not tired

My brain is running on caffeine
It really should be in a dream

Is that truly what I desire?
Cause I’m really not that tired

I close my eyes and try to rest

Still, visions dance before me

Why do I even bother?

Now where’s that cup of coffee?

Sweet liquid gold is most required
Oh, did I mention I’m not tired?
