Shimmers of Chartreuse – #poetry #JanuaryWriting

Ready to brave the lighted hall

He is cloaked in the darkest robe

Secretly hiding the treasure he holds

Carefully clutching, the tiny glass globe

Shimmering liquid, the color of green

Reflects off the tiles, straight ahead

Hoping he makes it past, this way

He fears now, where he must tread

Getting caught would be his undoing

They’d surely give him the noose

Footsteps echo, seems he’s been caught

All for the taste of Chartreuse

Bitter Is – #poetry #DecemberWriting

Bitter is this winter day

The winds cut through my skin

These old bones begin to shake

I can feel the cold within

Chattering, my teeth

As they play a musical tune

“Summertime” I hear them say

And it can’t come too soon

Age has taken hold of me

I like the cold no more

So I’ll curl up by the fireplace

Let it warm me to the core

Goodbye Twenty-Seventeen ~ #freeverse

Goodbye twenty seventeen

Your final days, eclipsed

By bitter clouds of snow

Dancing, swirling about

Making us long for the warmth

Of a springtime shower, or

The glow of the sun against

The blue waters of the ocean

Blankets spread out, picnics

And Frisbee, kites flying

And castles built in the sands

Time slips by, again and again

Goodbye twenty seventeen

Memories of you fade quickly

As a new year brings promise

Of much brighter tomorrows

Drawing the Line – #poetry #DecemberWriting

I have never known

where to draw the line

my fantasies, bleed out

from the end of a pencil

onto blank pages

where thoughts spill

without ink, splotches

of words, erased, replaced

then smeared again

by the brush of my hand

or is it my vision, blurring

the existing lines, a verse

left unattended because

I have fallen asleep

into yet another dream
