They had no problem with thorns, ignoring them

It seems nothing bothers the rocks, on the ridge

Devouring the tasty succulents, each, one at a time

Was exquisite, nothing wasted, not even a smidge

Poor cacti, trying hard to escape the stone clutches

They would squiggle and squirm, but to no avail

Eventually, they simply gave up the brave fight

Losing the struggle, as the bigger rocks did inhale

When the smallest pebbles, had been fully sated

They began their tumble, down the mountainside

Grateful, at last, to be rid of those pesky boulders

The cacti, once again, could now safely abide…

She carries the crystal, guarding, with her life

On a snowy path, which she only need follow

Until she reached the point, to make a decision

Either go left or right, she’d no time now to wallow

The sun was rising in the distance, behind her

Soon the stone would glow, seen everywhere

She couldn’t allow that to happen, it’s too soon

So left, she did journey, but in her heart, despair

What if she had chosen the wrong path to take?

What if She finds her, and captures the stone?

Surely, there must be a sign, along the way

That leads her, far, from the evil Forest Crone

A dastardly old witch, whose spells could maim

You dare not get close, just avoid confrontation

Alas, too late for Fate, she took a turn for the worse

Past the fork in the road, she did meet her damnation

January Writing Prompt – Fate took a turn for the worse at the fork in the road – Day 17/31

She was nothing but common
Until she donned the mask

How ironic, no one could see

The one who was hiding
Perhaps in plain sight

Could’ve, at any time, been me

Makeup didn’t change her
Simply, she was the same

How iconic, she had become

Kept them guessing all the time
The fools, they’d never know

How absurd, and oh, how fun!

They fell at her feet, this maiden
Clung to her, day and night

Seemingly, couldn’t get enough

Outside, she laughed, and toyed
But inside, she was different

From behind the mask, she’d rebuff

She set out, across the desert sands
Gathering nature, with her hands

Not wanting to leave, any behind
Heard life on Earth, could be so unkind

Carefree, following behind her, in tow
Were butterflies fluttering, to and fro

Flowers that blossomed, on one side
The clouds, ablaze, in orange skies

Everything she found, was simply a beauty
Knowing inside, this was her rightful duty

To bring back all, they didn’t have there
Saving from humans, who just didn’t care

Though, left behind, near grass, was a tree
Which had no leaves, nor birds to see

Twas the only thing, she could not carry
Though try, she did, but to the contrary

The tree did not want to go, nor gather
So, it stayed in its own place, and rather

Didn’t follow the lass, from land to land
Hoping one day, she would understand

Why he had stayed there, in the blazing sun
Who’d tell about trees, if there were none?

Under full moon’s light, as the thunder crashed

A deserted ship, against murderous waves, thrashed

There was no one aboard, they had perished that night

As the boat, bobbed and swayed, such a terrible sight

Once a crew of twenty, one by one, fell to the sea

Washed away with the tides which claimed victory

No bodies were found, on those waters, enraged

When guided by the full moon, cannot be assuaged

That was her vengeance, this storm, she delivered

Left behind, nothing more, than a craft, fully slivered
