Winter’s wicked breath

Mundane, until it touches

On fallen autumn

Frost covets flora

A moment, frozen in time

Awaiting the spring

Colleen’s poetry challenge for this week is synonyms only!  Her two words are Give and Shake.  Check out Colleen’s blog to find which forms of poetry are acceptable for this challenge.  Have fun!

Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Abandoning and Shudder.

As winter snow falls,

I shudder in the cold air,

Abandoning warmth.

Much like dear autumn’s last leaf,

Who dares to cling too tightly.

A rendezvous, in the ebony night

Nothing is hidden, illuminous sight

She sparkles in his shadow, his smile, a shine

In hopes she will come to him, this beauty, sublime

He beckons to her, she draws herself near

Yet she never quite stops, sailing by, in the clear

Of winter’s dark, she’s a tease in the sky

Moon longs for Venus, but she passes him by

The Kissing Curse – #poetry – #MarchWriting

Petals fell like snowflakes

On this, the first of spring

Each time they would smooch

Weather did a strange thing

At times, it was like summer

Then, twas autumn’s leaves

Lastly, winter, with its cold

Left icicles on the eaves

No matter where they kissed

Things would only get worse

It’s when they finally realized

They were under a kissing curse

Others told them to knock it off

They couldn’t stand the change

But, apparently this whole thing

Had been carefully prearranged

Happy Spring/Autumn Everyone! Enjoy your day!  ❤

A Blessing in Disguise ~ #Haibun #Haiku #poetrychallenge

It’s the first challenge of March, and Colleen lets us pick our own words!  Synonyms are not necessary but I used them anyway.  I chose Safe and Cherish.

Written as a Haibun/Haiku, my synonyms are Protect and Nourish.

I watched, as Mother Nature decorated the brown grasses, with a crystalline white, fluffy coat. Each branch, of empty tree, was now steadily upholding the frosty layer she had placed upon it. This was her blessing, her way of guarding, and it was her way of readying the earth, for the arrival of spring.  I truly felt this was how it was meant to be.  When she finally ceased, the skies remained a bit overcast, with no moon to brighten the newly fallen flakes, but the sight was luminous.

Come morning, she did not leave us with the gray, clouded skies that she brought the night before, but instead, she left the azure blue of the heavens, and the flight of angels, floating above me. I was fascinated by how she had truly captured my attention and I was enrapt in her spell.

And I continued to watch, as she nourished the hardened ground, by offering her soft heart, the beauty of which she will allow me to envision. I wished to journey outside to behold her charm, but I dare not disturb a work in progress. Instead, I watched through a pane of glass, a true reflection of love.

Winter snows blanket

Like a mother shields her child

Protecting new life
