So many faces

We hang onto without cause

Remain blank, unknown

He disappeared many years ago
Not knowing how long he was gone
Hoped he could discover who he was
Just a name, maybe Peter, Harry or Don

Something happened, back in his town
Though he dare not speak of it now
Surely they’d think him a liar
After all, what did he know, anyhow?

Wandered alone, left to his senses
He tried to find a place
Somewhere, anywhere, the people
Would recognize his face

Seemed it didn’t matter who he was
No one paid him attention
He was afraid to ask the town folk
They exuded too much tension

Each time he got close to any of them
They’d back away in fright
All he wanted was to find out
Exactly what happened that night

Each time he got closer
It was always the same
And so he continued to wander
The boy, without a name

Whispered stories told today
Of how poor Jimmy was taken
Still send shivers down their spines
This child, who had been forsaken

Left in the hands of the devil
Those who simply felt no shame
A child became their human sacrifice
Known only as the boy without a name

Author’s Note:  In 2018, over 400,000 children were reported as missing or kidnapped.  The latest statistics available (that I could find) in 2011, reported half of all stereotypical kidnappings were sexually motivated crimes.  I pray these children are found safely, and not badly damaged by the evil that stalked them.
(Info came from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children & the National Criminal Justice Reference Service)

The cool autumn breeze

Carries my thoughts

Upon the falling leaves

As they float through the air

On a journey unknown

She kept her face hidden, sheltered from sight

This spirit who wandered, throughout the night

No one could see her, though shimmering white

She must be an angel, the keeper of light

****

Yet, she knew the reason, she was left here alone

Her soul was not finished, her deeds, to bemoan

This being who stayed, while the others flew home

Is the keeper of darkness, bound to Earth, an unknown

stairs-989408_960_720
Stairs that lead to no special place

Coveted by ivy, moss, and trees

As I glance up to the top of them

I notice someone looking back at me

Eyes of stone, with chiseled lips

Can he be guarding these paces?

Or is it just my state of mind

That leads me to these faces?

The railing beckons me to climb

Pass this realm of rock, asleep

Careful not to make a sound

Up the stairs, I start to creep

Then stop in my tracks along the way

I’m sure that I heard someone say

“The journey is far beyond the stairs
Adventure awaits you, if you dare”

Surely, it’s the whispering wind

That’s driving me insane

For I refuse to believe a rock

Could be calling out my name
