Look closely at my reflection

In the amber colored liquid

Do you see me?

You poured me, into your glass

Smelled the whiskey of my breath

Tasted the burning of my heart

Swallowed the essence, of my soul

Left me to linger, age,

Days, nights,

Finally forgotten,

Ice melted, glass cracked,

And me, ever slowly

Seeped, into the emptiness

Drowned in your sorrows

It’s late
Rain splashes
Against the pane
A haunting sound
In this darkened night
The wind, nonexistent
Yet it rattles the glass
Upon which I rest my face
Cold seeps in, relentless
To my already aching bones
The fire, crackling,
Hissing, next to me
Offers no warmth
Reluctant to move
From the window
I sit, shivering
And watch
As my tears
Roll by

Bewildered by what she cannot be

Reflections in the glass, mirror only me

Cast aside, she’ll watch the others play

Curious thoughts still gather her way

Wondering why they have left her alone

No one to talk with, here on her own

Somber and lonely, she sits and she dreams

The only true friends are illusions, it seems

Before the Light of Day

graphics-946270_960_720For someone very dear to my heart, and to all the women (and men) who are victims of domestic violence….you’re stronger than you think  ❤

Before the light of day turns blue
And darkness finds my sorrow
Memories flood in vibrant hue
Will I awake again, tomorrow?

Unable to dream of happier times
When life was oh so kind
Remembering all that I once was
How could I be so blind?

To think this would be forever
That nothing could break the ties
Instead it leaves an open wound
Filled with empty, deceptive lies

That drown my heart in crimson red
As my body bleeds from you
Dreams turned into nightmares
It was all that I could do

To keep from losing who I am
To myself, I must be true
And find the strength to walk away
Before the light of day turns blue

Rebirth

We tend to chase away the pain
Run away from where it came
Disappear, yet once again
It comes back to us, all the same

We fight the battle to win the war
The one we never asked for
Waging against a mighty plight
Raging into the depths of night

We struggle to find the safest place
To rest from this weary human race
And gather our souls for better’s worth
Yet find an absence here on Earth

Within ourselves, within our heart
We reach inside and find the part
Missing deep within our soul
A simple piece to make us whole

He’s been with us through all our sorrow
He’ll be with us, again, tomorrow
A grace not found upon this earth
The son of God, our spiritual rebirth
