An open portal, a light shines through
Illuminating the walls, but who

Has opened up, this once locked door
And casts no shadow, upon the floor

No figure leaves its shape or form
Surely, this is not the norm

So I approach the space with care
Afraid, of what I might find there

Footsteps clack, upon the stone
Now I know, for sure, I’m not alone

And yet, there’s no one standing near
I wait, for someone to appear

Hold my breath, try not to blink
What little courage, begins to sink

The light, again, begins to grow
I turn, but there’s no place to go

Only one way out, the door, awaits
It seems, at last, I’ve sealed my fate

The signs, have all been crystal clear here
And now it seems, I’ll disappear here

I had no reason, to enter his tomb
The castle has spoken, my certain doom

On the bed sheets, a ring of gold
Along with a hand written note

No idea what she should be sorry for
Still, he felt a lump grow, in his throat

The small circle, of polished gold
Cast a shadow, in the shape of a heart

Suddenly, it dawned on him
His life, was falling apart

His state of affairs, no longer relevant
She was gone, without even goodbye

His heart, broken, into shattered pieces
When he realized, it had all been a lie

No Spirit of Comfort – #poetry #NovemberWriting

She comes calling in the middle of night

A ghostly figure, the witch of the light

She appears in the state room, there, alone

All that is heard is the sound of her moan

She’s no spirit of comfort, oh no, not she

Only there for herself, a lost memory

Long forgotten, the time passes by

Still she remains, though no one knows why

Perhaps she is looking for one who is true

Perhaps she is looking, for someone like you

Beware if you see her, run if you can

She’s sure to grab you, or any old man

Hear the sound of her broom, swept on the floor?

Now is the time, to run for the door

Haunting the home, she kept long ago

All she has left, is her eerie shadow

One that will hide, in bedknobs, with delight

Patiently waiting, to whet her appetite

Will they see their shadow
Or will the sun remain at bay
Will there be an early spring
Or will the groundhogs run away?

Punxsutawney’s waiting
Staten Island’s waiting, too
Phil and Chuck are scheming
About what they should do

For if they see their shadows
They’ll run back into their burrow
Six more weeks of winter comes
Thanks to these furry fellows

But wait! It doesn’t matter
If their shadows show or not
It’s six more weeks of winter
No matter how you stir the pot

We could have an early spring
That would be quite nice
But if the cold continues
We’ll be frozen, just like ice

Let’s hope the sun stays hidden
So they come out to play
And we can clap and cheer like fools
On this second February day

A Groundhog’s Lament

You wake me in the morning
To find out if I see
My shadow lurking in the sun
Waiting to frighten me

If this shadow doesn’t show up
Early spring is in the air
But if this pesky fellow comes
It’s six more weeks of winter wear

Here’s hoping that the clouds
Hide the sunshine on this day
So when I come out of my burrow
I can chase the cold away

But next year, please, find someone new
Perhaps a weatherman instead
So they can be rustled from their sleep
And predict what days still lie ahead
