The association had a meeting one night

But the members were much too terse

They started a foray, twas a terrible sight

Which only managed to make things worse

I watch him row, against fiery light
Just a silhouette, of a man, in a boat
Moving his paddles, left and right
On the calm river waters, he floats

I wonder, has he a care in the world
Or is he trying to escape, from the past
The fronds about him blow, unfurled
Still, he remains this silent outcast

Each night, it’s the very same thing
He rows by, while the sun starts to set
Sometimes, I think I hear him sing
But most likely, it’s the wind’s quartet

Rustling through the broken air
Creating just enough sound to be heard
Unlike the man in the boat, unaware
My curiosity of him, he has stirred

Ooey Gooey – #NaPoWriMo – #AprilWriting – #poetry

Underneath my nice new boots
Well baked, in the Texas sun
A wad of gooey gobs of gook
Otherwise known as bubblegum

Some kid must have tossed it
Out the window of Dad’s truck
And just like that I stepped in it
And yelled, “What the heck?”

(OK so, that line didn’t rhyme
But this poem is rated PG
I’ll catch ya at another time
Off guard, cause that’s who I be)

I tried to walk across the street
But my boot just kept on stickin’
I hope I never find the kid
Cause I’d sure give him a lickin’

When I finally made it, to the other side
I looked around, for a stick on the curb
Scrapping the gum off the bottom
I had a face that looked quite disturbed

Excuse, mister, said a cute little girl
But I think you’ve stepped on my gum
I’m sorry if I messed them up on you
To her charms my heart did succumb

I told her it was quite alright
The gum wouldn’t stick forever
Took myself down to the local store
Chalked it up to another endeavor

I’m more careful these days
About where I put my foot down
I promised myself I’d pay attention
I sure don’t want to have sticky feet
So I’ve been practicing gum prevention

If you don’t take the initiative, to better your life

People begin to think of you, as an ugly old snake

Kindness is important, in this world, so full of strife

Put others before your own self, for goodness sake!

Caught in the Act – #NaPoWriMo – #AprilWriting – #poetry – #Easter

Alyssa was caught in the act!

I thought it was safe, and no one was near

When all of a sudden, I saw Mommy dear

She had a hand on her hip, and a look in her eye

She caught me red handed, all I did was sigh

It’s a habit I have, each year, with a bunny

I bite off his ears, it makes him look funny

I know it’s not nice, but I don’t do it very often

Besides, it’s no good, if the chocolate does soften

                                 ++++

It only happens on Easter, and it brings her such bliss

So, Happy Easter to you, from chocolate-faced Lys!

*No real bunnies were harmed during the writing of this poem… I can’t speak for the chocolate ones, though.  😉
