They dance, under the cover of night,

Disguised as snowflakes, tinged with light,

Filling the darkness, glistening bright,

Behold in the distance, a beautiful sight

Flittering about, whispers unheard,

Each to the other, without saying a word,

Not even a rustle, nor song, from a bird,

Yet, something inside you, is easily stirred.

Watch them carefully, for soon they’ll go,

This vision, you thought, was only snow,

No trace will they leave, but, this you’ll know,

Real, are the fairies, and the magic they bestow.

Ivy shrouds a tiny house, made of glass and metal

Inside, a boy, so very small, tries his best to settle

Knowing danger is lurking, a face he does not know

Watching him, he tries to hide them, from this foe

Fairies flitter about him, dodging his every move

Surely, they know, this menace need be reproved

Carefree sprites, they continue, to taunt the face

Hoping, soon, he’ll forget, how he found this place

Perhaps, he’s a small one, separated from his own

Fearful for his tiny ones, of this he’ll not condone

And so the light, in the home, stays lit, without a fire

Never to wait in darkness, they begin to conspire

Wondering how to deal with what has them mystified

The man, with an unknown face, waits patiently outside

Set light upon the new day, let the beauty flutter about

Watch as the mystery glows, be still, fairies never tout

Disguised as tiny butterflies, see their essence shimmer

They are one with nature, making our world glimmer

Rise up to their calling, as they sweetly soothe your soul

Set light upon the new day, let the magic take control

Book Review – Fairies, Myths & Magic: A Summer Celebration by Colleen Chesebro

As a follower of all things magical and mythical, Colleen Chesebro had me at the title. “Fairies, Myths & Magic” is a wonder-filled collection of poetry and prose, ending with the Summer Solstice. Colleen touches on the plights of the Earth, damaged by human hands, particularly, the honey bees. In the poem “Wet Ink”, she takes you to Pearl Harbor through a tattoo artist with magical hands. In one short story, you’ll meet a sly fairy who tries to cast a love spell on his female friend.  Oh, the fun of this tale!

Colleen weaves tales of fairies and pixies, spells and promises, with imagery that takes you into the story, as if you were one of the characters, all the while teaching you about the points of a Septagram and the magic of this fairy star. My very favorite story in this book is, “Halloween Havoc”. As an October baby myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the lightheartedness of this tale, especially the ending. It had me smiling and laughing, as the story kept me entranced.

Colleen Chesebro’s use of different poetry forms keeps the reader interested, and adds a nice element to the book, one that will keep you turning the pages. I found it difficult to put down!

This book was given to me by the author. I truly enjoyed her tales and poems, and I highly recommend this book to any and every one. Even if you don’t believe in fairies and magic, you will when you’ve finished this masterpiece of writing.

This review is also on Amazon and Goodreads.

She disguised herself well, to the other race

Once a human child, now elegance and grace

The fairies had found her, alone, oh so tragic

Quick as could be, they performed their magic

Gathered around her, they danced with glee

Watched as she welcomed them, happily

No longer alone, this child and her plight

Her life had been changed, by many a sprite

Now they flutter about her, protected is she

A beautiful swan, tis what I wish to be
