Tumultuous, the clouds as they sigh,

Gray, like days, they go drifting by

Black, as a moonless, starless night,

Water from my eyes, blurs my sight

Cascading down, perhaps in vain

Are they my tears or just the rain?

Traces
Everything changes

In shadowed light

I wonder from afar

Are you a flame of the morning sun,

Or the fire from a burning star?

That shines its light across the sky

In search of new tomorrows

Caught on the breeze of endless air

To leave behind your sorrows

Can I join your wondrous flight

And escape to better places?

Can you help me hide away

Without leaving any traces?

I wrote this piece in March 2014.  I’m sharing again because just recently, my daughter experienced this.  Please be kind to others, you don’t know what battles they are facing…..

You will never see
the silent pain, or the broken souls
who question why
Or how or what
they did to deserve this
enormous disruption of their lives.

Independency taken
away in the blink of an eye
and never an understanding
It becomes a constant battle
to make those around them perceive
the reality.

The glares of the accusing
unaware, of the horror within
the courageous body before them
They poke and tease
with disbeliefs and “you look fine”s
without an inkling or thought
as to what they suggest.

But the strong do not give up, do not stop
the fight against a villain
who showed unwelcomed one day
They struggle and confront the world
that looks upon them unsure, skeptical
Uncertain

They are brave and fierce people
who will not let this malady define them
who will not let the constant depression
sadden the brightest days
Who choose, instead, to be an inspiration
to others who fight a similar battle
with compassion, caring…hope

Dedicated to those who fight a silent battle, whatever it may be. God bless all of you.

Before I Slip Away

Do you hear me when I cry
Feel the teardrops as they fall
Can you hear my trembling sigh
When I feel so very small

Do you see the pain inside
Can you calm the fear
Do you see what I can’t hide
Please, make the darkness disappear

Will you hold me in your arms
Comfort me at night
Will you quiet all my qualms
And chase away the fright

Hear me, see me, hold me close
Don’t let me go astray
Just be my painless antidote
Before I slip away

Happiness Waits

A quiet moment, alone on a swing

Hoping my heart can remember to sing

Floating on air, in the bright morning light

Knowing full well, I must keep up the fight

To conquer this monster, restless in me

I can no longer take all of life’s sympathy

For those who don’t know, it feels like you’ve died

From all of those emotions you’ve kept deep inside

I look not for pity, from eyes as they glare

But hope one day, I am not ashamed to share

The burdens I lay at my very own feet

Trying so hard, to fight this defeat

I’ve locked it away, yet it’s close to my heart

The sadness I feel, like I’m falling apart

Not knowing which way I can turn and still care

Falling deeper and deeper into empty despair

Til the chirp of a bird sings its own happy song

And in that very moment, my heart sings along

Rejoicing, he sings, such a sweet melody

His reminder, that happiness is waiting for me
