Up at the North Pole, the elves are busy building

Tap, tap, tap, all day long, working for the children

But Santa’s making merry, he’ll need a Corpse Survivor

Else, on Christmas Eve, he’ll need a designated driver

*For those not familiar with a “corpse survivor” you can find the info here

Life offers no comfort, to the ones who came back lost

Those whose minds, were taken, but really, at what cost

Trying to find the place, where last they knew their names

In a country that misunderstands, and never takes the blame

Locked inside, their restless souls, unable to assimilate

Homeless, lying in the street, oblivious to their fate

The drug of choice, so many, as they try to ease the pain

I pray to God, that someday, they’ll come back home, again

Smiling, gladly welcomed, by those they left behind

No longer in that empty space, that lingers, in their mind

Shaken not Stirred ~ #poetry #MarchWriting

Aside from the obvious way this poem could have gone, I opted for a more relaxing definition 😉

Take one ounce of coconut rum

Add an ounce of orange liqueur

Blue curacao tops off the color

And things will soon be a blur

Don’t forget the cranberry juice

Then make sure it’s shaken, not stirred

Ice is a must for this little delight

This is where your words get slurred

Pour it into an old fashioned glass

Trust me, after a few of these

You’ll surely end up on your ass

Most definitely, on your knees

This is actually the recipe for a drink named Purple Nurple 😀

There’s a scent in the air

The smell of old smoke

An old man in the corner

Laughs aloud, at his jokes

Another scream in the night

Someone else has been scorned

Now tattered and wasted

Her face is forlorn

Stilettos stagger against pavement

Cobbled streets make no noise

She hears sounds, from the bar

Just the usual ole boys

They’ll playfully tug at her

Sinister, perverse, as they flirt

Taunting and teasing

And grabbing her skirt

But she knows in her heart

She will never surrender

She leans over, whispers to me

“Make it a double, bartender …”

My eyes are blurred, in pastel pink

I think I’ve had too much to drink

Nothing’s making any sense

Imagination, my self defense

With trickery, you change my vision

Enough to cause this indecision

Do I carry on, the way I am

Or sober up, with another gram

That brings my focus back in view

Though things remain, quite askew

Perhaps it’s best to sleep it off

Forget the drink, what was that quaff?

That made everything, before me, blurry

While time blew by me, in a hurry

With this, a bitter pill, to swallow

Is this the path I’m doomed to follow?
