Much to Learn – #poetry #memories

This room, old and dirty, things in disarray
Peeling walls, graffiti, boldly on display
The house, now abandoned, quietly cries
No hint of life, nor story, simply cast away.

On a table, an open book, filled by pen and ink
A chart, perhaps, or ledger, makes you stop and think
Someone, once cared, deeply, about this place
But, it’s been left here, empty, and on the brink.

Of finding out the answers, we all truly seek
Of heritage, and family, things filled with mystique
Absently turning the pages, searching for our life
Promises, once spoken, surely, makes this home unique.

As sun shines through the windows, caked with grime
A reminder of what must have been, a beauty, in its prime
Still, the light brings comfort, as a sigh escapes our lips
To leave the past behind us, would surely be a crime

There’s too much left to learn, and we’re on borrowed time….

Honoring Our Veterans 2019 – #VeteransDay

Today, in the United States of America, we celebrate Veterans Day. A day to honor the men and women who have fought in war, and fought for our freedoms, so that we may live as a free nation. Originally named Armistice Day, Congress changed the name in June 1954. In 1971, Veterans Day was moved to the fourth Monday in October, but was later moved back to November 11 beginning in 1978.

****

“On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.”1

****

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day. Memorial Day is the day we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, who laid down their lives so that American’s could be free, free to choose, free to vote, free to live life.

We are and ever shall remain

“One Nation Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for All.”

The next time you see a veteran, shake his or her hand, put your hand over your heart, just say Thank You. You don’t have to support war, but we do have to support our fellow Americans.

Thank you, to all the men and women of our military, here and away from home. My heart goes out to you and your families. I stand proud of my country because of you.

Tea Time Talk – #27 ~ #TeaTimeTalk

Good morning, friends. My goodness, how the time has flown by.  So happy to have you join me for a cup of tea!  Let’s chat.  🙂

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: or rather, ask you, is time moving more quickly these days?  Or is it just me?  I could swear it was just Monday, but here we are again, six days later.  Whoosh!  I wish I could get some of that time back.

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: birthday’s have ended here until January.  Now we look forward to Thanksgiving.  This will be the first year in ages that I will not be cooking.  It’s too much for me to do, my condition has made itself heard.  No more big dinners!  We are deciding what to do.  Options include: Turkey sandwiches, with cranberry sauce & mashed potatoes – Hot open-faced turkey sandwiches with mashies & gravy – or – going to a restaurant for a buffet.  I am leaning toward the restaurant.  I won’t have left overs, but I also won’t have to clean up when it’s over!!  What would you do?

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: we had a blast with Shadow this week, and we get to play and walk him tomorrow night, too! He is such a sweetheart and LOVES my husband!  We also got to walk Darty on Thursday & Friday.  He is such a love.  I found him curled up on his sofa (Yes he has his own sofa!), patiently waiting for me to give him tummy rubs. I wish someone would do that for me. lol

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: it’s been a strange week without Alyssa around.  She’s been in Pennsylvania since last Saturday.  I really miss her.  She’ll be home Tuesday morning.  I can’t wait!  Speaking of Alyssa…

If you’re into TV shows, like Nancy Drew, Riverdale, Arrow or The Flash, etc, Alyssa has a review blog that needs a little bit of loving from the WP community.  If you’d like to follow, here’s the link: Comic Reviews and More by Alyssa

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: aaaaannnnd, more about Alyssa!  She’s roped me into a business venture.  So we are now partners in…well…I can’t tell you yet!  I know, I’m horrible to tease this way.  I promise, I will be making an announcement soon.  I’m both extremely excited and extremely terrified.  When you have anxiety (and truly, unless you have it, you have no idea how it feels), even the smallest things can be overwhelming.  And this is no small thing.  So look for an announcement from us, probably some time after Thanksgiving.

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: tomorrow, we celebrate Veteran’s Day, here in the states.  It’s a day we honor the men and women of the military, who have fought or are fighting, to protect our freedoms.  I can’t thank them, and their families, enough, for making the sacrifices which keep us safe! So next time you see someone in uniform, consider stopping and saying thank you.   ❤

If we were sipping tea and talking I would tell you: on our Saturday trip to Sunnybank Park, we found a bird we have never seen before.  He was hunkered down by a small tree stump.  Had he not moved, we never would have noticed him.  He’s a Long-billed Curlew.  This is a new one for me, and hubby took this picture with my camera.  How cool is this bird!

As for the week ahead:

If we were sipping tea, basking in the sun and talking I would tell you: I am looking forward to having Lys back home, and all the fun things that lie ahead for all of us here.  I am slowly getting back to my old self (not rushing it), and once I am, there’ll be no stopping me.

If we were sipping tea, basking in the sun and talking I would tell you: it’s off to church I go!  It’s Fellowship Day and we have bagel detail! Until next time, be well, and have a blessed week, my friends!  ❤

Can you tell me, wise old sage

What lies beyond the gate?

Will I journey through them?

And tempt the hands of fate

They say you are the only one

Who can tell my future true

I am here to listen closely

To the wisdom, that is you

In the setting sun of evening

With the stars that shine so bright

I’ll wait here, in the darkness

With you, as my guiding light

I’ll stand here and I’ll wonder

If you’ll ever let me see

What it is inside the gate

That’s waiting just for me

Open Your Mind – #poetry #sunset

A fiery sky to soothe the night

A hint of blue, still seeks the light

Sun sets quietly, trees fade to black

Shading the green, though color lacks.

She paints the landscape, as if to please

When all she really does, is tease

Your eyes, into seeing what is always there

And yet, she knows, you’ll always stare

As darkness reigns, and she fades away

Calling an end to another day

With the majesty, she has presented thee

Simply, open your mind, and let it see
