Early Morning Mishaps – #poetry #SeptemberWriting

I really needed to get up, and out of bed

But my alarm clock just kept ringing, instead

Seems I stayed up too late, with the crickets

Then got caught in a speed trap, ugh! A ticket!

I’m always like this, so this day was the same

Got to work, new excuse, the cops are to blame

Made my coffee, then spilled it, don’t you see?

Early mornings are not quite meant for me

Let the day continue, and when it’s time

And midnight approaches, wondrous, sublime

I’m far more comfortable, as one with the night

Letting the moon, in the dark, be my light

I can almost reach it

The place my heart wanders

Where my soul endlessly flies

In and out of the darkness

Happier to hide in the craters

And follow the shadows, then

Watch the sun creep up, as it

Illuminates that famous face

While I, content to remain here

On the dark side, where no one

Can see me, as I dodge the light

Allows me to become a shadow

Blending in with your surface

Feeding off your moon beams

Reflecting, with the stars, gathering

Dreams, listening to my heart and

Realizing, I never wish to go home.

Oh goodness, what a terrible sight

When they finally turned on the light

There was dust everywhere

But they just did not care

Turned on music and danced with a mite

A weary traveler followed the light
Down this road he had walked for miles
How can the sun arise in the night?
Still the orb, up ahead, did beguile

Eerie clouds hovered around, in the air
Formed circles, in an ominous mist
He stopped to shade his eyes from the glare
Watched, as the dark and light coexist

Bewildered by what he was seeing
He must try to decide, should he go
Or turn back, he’d be perceived as fleeing
What that would mean, he didn’t know

The light in the sky had entranced him
He must continue on the path ahead
Lest this be perceived as only a whim
So, further down, alone, he did tread

Stopped again, by this big old tree
It was one he’d never seen there before
It glowed in the night, with stars, carefree
Twas then, he couldn’t take anymore

He picked up his pace for a moment
Tried to hurry, to reach the hillside
On the last of this journey, a bestowment
With the moon, he’d now safely abide
