It was years since she could remember
How it felt to be in these shoes
Lacing them up with perfection
Unassuming, his delicate muse

Her pirouette, exquisite and airy
On her toes, twas so easy to see
How it came back to her, so quickly
As she danced with the forest and tree

He adored her, her grace was endless
Every elegant movement she made
How could he have left her behind?
Why on Earth had she even stayed?

For her beauty took his breath away
He knew now he’d never go far
His ballerina, his fantasy come true
Yes, she was his one shining star

If I Were a Plant ~ #poetry #whimsical

If I were a plant, what would I be?
Perhaps not a plant, maybe a tree?
One that grows tall, since I’m really short
Then I can build, a neat little fort
Climb in my house, stationed up high
Breathe in the air, watch the clouds drifting by
Listen, as the birdies, sing in their nests
Yes, this is the place I would love best

But, wait, as a plant, I could grow flowers
People would care for me, hours and hours
Give me a clipping, tame back my roots
Always making sure I look very cute
Until, at last, I am blossoming full
Then out come the scissors, and I feel the pull
Snip, snip, snip, my blooms are all gone
Not exactly my idea of a beauty salon

So what should I be?
A plant or a tree?
I think perhaps
I just like being me

Author’s note:  This poem was inspired by a search term that brought them to my blog: “dorinda plant”.  It kind of grew on me, oh, bad pun, sorry, anyway, I hope you enjoyed!   🙂

Where My Life will End ~ #poetry #freeverse

There was a time

when the words

flowed like a waterfall,

an endless cascade

of letters, gathering

together like waves

in the ocean, crashing

down in a sigh, then

slipping away once again.

This is where my life will end,

like the bottom of a riverbed,

dried up, seared by the heat

of the daytime star, scarred

where words no longer

can bleed brittle memories,

merely to fall away,

an invisible page

I am but a piece, created from a strip of bark

Crumpled by your hands, smoothed out again

Your thoughts, played over and over

My essence lacks emotion, and yet, I

Am able to feel the passion that flows

From your fingertips, through the pen, to me

A single sheet of paper, waiting, watching

As you bring me to life with every stroke

With every sigh, with every bit of your soul.

Blocked with stones, and locked forever

A place where once, the plentiful, stored

Fed the hungry, through cold winter days

Now left alone, empty, and ignored

The door that held the bounty

Of this land, so lovingly tilled

No longer can be opened

No longer can be filled

For it only stands in memory

Of one who can never be replaced

A root cellar door, forever closed

Yet, still fertile, in this hallowed place
