“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”: FDR Asks for a Declaration of War. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, stunned virtually everyone in the United States military. Japan’s carrier-launched bombers found Pearl Harbor totally unprepared.”

I cry another tear
As I watch the sky
Darkened by terror
And the clouds weep
Draining their wrath
Over the lands, exhausted
By the fires that burn
In the evil that dwells
And yet, we watch,
As another brother loses
And the devil wins again
Taking and taking, never
Relenting, never a hesitation
For as long as these men
Shall shed their own blood
We shall never know love
The brotherhood, once
An almighty power, has
Been shaken to dust,
Battled to the death,
Relinquished peace…..

Shall I walk outside my door

Unafraid to face the war

Of humans battling one another

Bullets flying, run for cover

Terror plagues this hallowed land

Acts of violence, carefully planned

For what? I have to wonder why.

How many tears must we all cry?

How many others have to die?

Until this carnage, at last does cease

And once again, we can live in peace

Remembering those in Orlando, and around the world, who have fallen to these senseless acts of violence.

The storm raged
thunderous explosions
like the Fourth of July
without its colors
rattled windows
dislocated, limbs fell
against the glass
or did they knock
asking me, to let them in
shelter from the battle
I don’t know, shades drawn
lights out, I could not see
seated in the darkness
only my shadow reflected
on the wall, as lightning
danced across the skies
illuminated, then black again
ice pellets, echoed,
the noise, like machine guns,
ravaging the night, a hunter
claimed his prey
then unexpected silence
the only sound heard
was the peaceful rain,
gently falling.

a truce…………

veterans-
For the United States, a nation free

A country proud of her liberty,

Without a second guess, you stood

And formed an earthly brotherhood.

Joined together, hand in hand

You vowed to protect our beloved land,

Lines of battle, courageously fought

You made it home, weary and fraught.

But others will never forget, you see

You’ve carved a place in history.

To our Veterans of war, we gratefully pray

May God watch over you, each night and day!
