Sweet autumn scurries

Though portions of time await

Seasons change again

A little bit of pixie dust

Lay scattered, on the ground

Magically, the trees would change

Their colors, quite profound

A mystical elfin treasure

Mother Nature put on land

She’d color the world in a beautiful way

Autumn, she said, must be grand!

But in order for this to happen

No color could this sprite contain

She must leave it behind in the forest

Until winter came calling again

It was only then she could reclaim

The beauty she left behind

Waiting for autumn to return once more

Was all that she had on her mind

Watching waves, cresting, high

Those summer days did seem to fly

Then autumn came in, with a sigh

Followed by winter’s icy cry

Awaiting spring, new life I’d spy

And oh the days, still drifting by

The seasons of our lives

Labor Day…the last official weekend of the summer…sigh

Soon night will fall much too soon

As seasons once again commune

For summer says its last goodbyes

And ocean’s shore quietly sighs

No more footprints in the sand

No more people getting tanned

No more beaches left to roam

We’ve packed and now are headed home

To once again, forget the haze

We lived in, all these summer days

Days pass, lazily, in the haze of summer

Nights become cooler, anticipation sets in

The subtle autumn air teases, but waits

She knows this is not her time, not quite yet

The cliché, dog days of summer, unfulfilled

Brown grasses and wilted flowers, her signal

To bring her vibrancy to the earth, colors

Which paint the skies, an artist’s palette

The trees, her easel, the leaves, her brush

Always a masterpiece, her yearly creation
