We start out very small, and oh, we are such cuties
With a diaper on the bottom, to cover up our booty’s
Everyone coos at us, and we think that’s just grand
Of course, you realize, it’s exactly how it’s planned

The years go on, and slowly, our diapers disappear
Instead, in place, is underwear, to cover up our rear
We learn to use the bathroom, for other than a bath
Having to pull down our undies, sure gives us a draft

Still more years pass by us, we’ve got it under control
Our body tells us when it’s time, to visit a nearby bowl
We take it all for granted, it will always be this way
Til we realize, something’s different, and gone astray

Where once we knew our bodies well, it has changed
And all our underclothing, must now be rearranged
Instead of fancy underwear, we’re in diapers once more
And those taking care of us, are the ones, we cared for

Charli, over at the Carrot Ranch gave us the prompt Growing older. Here are the rules:

In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about growing older. It can be humorous, dark or poignant. It can be true or total fiction. It can be fine wine or an old fossil. Go where the prompt leads!

I’m living a wonderful life, though age has decreased my gait. Still, I manage to have some fun, I want to live it, before it’s too late. Life, is much too short, to leave it on the side of the road. The older I get, the more I know, take it all, before you’ve slowed.

Growing older is beautiful, I was put here, for a purpose. Until that is complete, I’ll remain here, on this surface. To live, laugh, love, play, until time is not a thought, then I’ll say I’m finally done, but… I haven’t lived for naught

Word Count: 99

Prompt: Growing Older

The broken pieces of me, do crumble
Still, I’ve lived a life that’s humble
For years, now, I have kept you grounded
How I did this, I’m astounded

Stomped on, in my younger days
Still, a bit gentler, in many ways
Could have stopped this sudden downfall
Too late now, I’m falling apart, and all

Could you, perhaps, put me back together?
I’m sure it’ll make me feel much better
I watch you shake your head at me
There’s nothing you can do? I see

So, that’s it, my time is done
It’s seems old age, at last, has won.
But thanks for all the memories
The flowers, birds & maple trees

I’ll miss them all, we’ve grown so close
But you’re the one, I’ll miss, the most.

A Goodbye Promise ~ #poetry of #aging

Won’t you please come closer, let me have a look at you
I promise not to harm you, I just want to know your name
I am, simply, an old tree, stuck in the snow, without a clue
As how to get the cold to leave, each year, it’s still the same

The sky gets rather cloudy, and the sun seems to run away
Is there a way for me to stop this, from happening again?
All at once, the light is gone, and all around me, turns gray
Perhaps you can teach me, how to change the ice to rain

You keep looking at me, with wonderment on your face
I seem to be quite different, than the others trees, I fear
I bet you’re trying to figure out, how I got to this place
I wish I had the answer, but Mother Nature’s left me here

Frozen in this position, I have no choice but to look down
I wonder if, there is a way, for you to help me straighten
Such puzzlement in your eyes, and now you have a frown
My guess is that you can’t, so that leaves me still misshapen

Maybe, perchance, you’ll come back, when the snow is done
Bring with you, a book or two, then we can read together
Spring, is when I’ll find my leaves, to shade you, from the sun
Yes, I can see that you agree, it’s also your kind of weather

Now off you go, dear child, before you turn much colder
And winter, in its harshest way, causes me to grow older

Mind yourself, stay warm, and dry

I’ll see you soon, I promise…

…Goodbye

I’m feeling quite joyous, Yes! It’s that time of year

So delighted, when the holiday season brings cheer

Decorations that shine on each tree, lighted brightly

Ah, the sky glistens too, with each star, lighted nightly
