It approaches
Lingering shadows
Filling the blackness
Haunting illusions
Filling empty spaces
Surrounding the innermost
Profound secrets
Hiding in the night

Dance of the Firefly

A sea of fluorescence
Flickering through the grass
On a dark Summer’s eve
In and out, like blinking lights
On a Christmas tree

A guiding effervescence
Glowing ever so slowly
Soft white to bright
Dancing through the air
Their bodies scintillate the night

I saw you graze the night sky
A simple twinkle that burned so brightly
I could not look away
I followed
As you soared across the Heavens
And I knew
You were keeping watch over me

 A golden orb
Illuminating the ebony sky
Peeking playfully
Through the branches of
Still barren trees

Allowing the mind
To let mystery unfold
As the full moon beckons
Those who know its call

path-736002_960_720aA light down a darkened path
beckons me to follow
As I approach
it flickers
making me stop, wait

Again it calls
I continue forward
not knowing what lies beyond
the blackness that settles around me

A light so bright, yet not
I cannot see past it
My eyes play tricks
seeing only what my mind allows
Fantasy settles in

It lures me
and I walk, following
unaware that I am pursuing
My darkest dreams
my biggest fears

I turn around, afraid
and find nothing
but the darkness in which I began
Yet sounds and shadows engulf me
in a sensory overload

And I freeze, unable to comprehend
all that is there
and not
Only to realize my existence
in my own imagination
