They’ll deliver a package, but it’s a mystery to whom

I’m hopeful she’ll like it, cause it’s covered in blooms

I had to make a choice, a Secret Santa I became

Can’t tell anyone who it is, that’ll ruin the game!

There was something about that house. Every day she walked by it, something was different. This time it was the front door, though she wasn’t quite sure what it was that caught her attention. She always admired the brass door frame, but the brown wooden door looked out of place there. Even the railings of the porch steps had touches of brass. Why not go for the extra, and make the door brass also?

Feeling a bit adventuresome, she decided to walk up the steps to get a closer look at the door. She hesitated at first, but didn’t think anything of it. As she got closer, she felt a strange warmth. Touching the door, she realized it wasn’t wood at all, but a rather strange looking metal.  And the heat she felt was emanating directly from it.  Suddenly, in front of her, the door began to melt against the brass frame, until it disappeared, and she with it…

The lovely Helene of Willow Poetry has challenged us with “What do you See?”.  This is a wonderful photo for the Halloween season!  You may write a poem, haiku, tanka or short story that represents what you see or feel within you.  More info can be found in the link below.

I watch, perched high in yonder tree, as she creates this spell of mystery; she’s chosen from her favorite book, some herbs thrown in, perhaps to cook. And when it finally starts to dance, its flame of colors, indeed, entrance; this humble owl, whose eyes glow bright, it’s bewitching hour, on this ebon night. There isn’t time to be discreet, just taste the nectar, salty sweet; then wait to see what you turn into, when you imbibe, on a witch’s brew.

She’ll turn you into eye of newt

Or perhaps a fuzzy kiwi fruit

Or maybe a frog, with luscious legs

Or even a hen, to lay some eggs

Perhaps the wing of an errant bat

Or a bowl of milk, for her black cat

She’ll turn you into what she wishes

And you can bet, you’ll be delicious

Hidden in the fog, with the morning light

Maniacal mysteries, and terrible frights

No people to see, at least no one living

Milmonyville, was a place, unforgiving

Tragic tales, of murder, filled the town

Claiming the men, who didn’t back down

Nefarious carrying on, in the streets

You best run now, go on, use your feet

Hightail it out, of the land filled with dread

But be careful where you step…

Or you could wind up dead.

In neat little piles, outside my back door

Sat a bunch of mysterious mounds

I’m not really sure what exactly they were

Only saw they were perfectly round

Went out to the garage to fetch the rake

Needed to clean up the mess, such trash

But when I came back, the mounds were gone

Seems they all disappeared, in a flash

Well, I haven’t seen them since that day

And so they remain, quite a curious thing

I’m hoping to never see them again, but

I’m sure they’ll be back, come next spring
