Talk to me, I can ease your pain

I promise, he won’t hurt you again

No more hands, will strike you down

This cruelty ends, when hope abounds

Protect your heart, from this agony

And finally breathe, let your spirit free

To live your life, unafraid of the dark

Where brutality can no longer leave a mark

Find the place, to let your soul arrive

Somewhere, anywhere, you will survive!

He cannot hurt what he doesn’t own

You, one so beautiful, must not condone

Who you are, praise, what you become

Rid yourself of that which leaves you numb

It’s in you, seek out your true happiness

Forget about him, and all his crappiness

Remember these words, no more need for dread

Never again, shall you fear, where monsters tread

***On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.*** (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence)

He gathered them together
Every goblin, ghoul and beast
To celebrate this day with him
At the annual Frankenstein feast

Wolfman came in full attire
Alice brought a rabbit in a hat
Jack O’Lantern brought the pie
And grandpa turned up as a bat

Of course, Frank had celebrities
Most had their faces masked
He even had some other folks
Though they were never asked

But Frankie didn’t care, no sir
Everyone was welcome to crash
Clowns, kids, even Chaplin did
It was the greatest monster bash!

Flashbacks and Yesterdays ~ #poetry #freeverse

Flashbacks, and yesterdays, things that should be

forgotten, but are not, unexplained, pushed away

from what you need, only to find another place, to hide

blanking out pictures, sepia nightmares that won’t subside.

Colorless figures you run from, don’t look behind, they’ll find

you, tucked away, in the dark, you breathe, the only sound

and as footsteps echo through the hallway, doors open.

Hold your breath! Eyes shut! Don’t let the monsters in!
