Left on the road, smack dab, in the middle
In her hands, with a map, she anxiously did fiddle

Trying to make sense, of all the lines and curves
This whole mystery, was getting on her nerves

There had to be a way, to get to where she needed
Should’ve paid attention, to the old man’s words, heeded

He told her not to travel, down this dusty trail
Perhaps another way, her plans, she should curtail

There had to be an answer, on this map, somewhere
That would get her to Da Vinci’s, in the town square

But there was no square to speak of, no town did exist
Just a farm, vacated, maybe help, she should enlist

Unsure of where to turn to, or how to find someone
She decided to go west, and follow the setting sun

But first, she had to find a way, to lighten her heavy load
Left everything she owned, on the side of Da Vinci Road

Years gone by, they still recall, how she disappeared that day
And how they tried to warn her, much to their dismay

No one travels the path anymore, no one dares to go
They know better, to steer clear, or death, it will bestow

The
Faces
Remain here
Haunting my soul
Each one different
But still the same being
This, the house where I grew up
No longer holds fond memories
Instead it bears the marks of a child
Forgotten, alone, fending off evil
An evil that still dwells inside of it
How I long to rid myself of it
Banish it to another world
Yet, I remain stuck within
A gruesome gabled home
With fiendish faces
Always ogling
Rescue me
Fondly
Anne

I knew that this would not be easy
They said “do it” or else I’d be fired
Making my way, out onto the field
I had an interview with the umpire

He seemed like a really nice guy
As I slowly walked to home plate
When I got there, I started to sweat
But, figured, Hey! This should be great

I’ll get tight with the one who calls strikes
Surely, he’d never catch on to my plan
Perhaps, maybe not, I better play it safe
I’m just the manager, but he’s the man

Everything seemed to go smoothly
On my face, I was wearing a smile
The umpire looked at me strangely
In fact, it was more like a bit hostile

Making my way back to the dugout
I suddenly heard a loud shout
I turned around, but before I could yell
He said, “That’s it. I’ve had it! You’re OUT!”

How long have I been perched here?
How much of my time has passed by?
The leaves on the trees have fallen
The birds make their way, in the sky

The road, by the house, hasn’t changed
It’s still dusty, when winds come through
Yet, that big old tree, somehow survives
But my thoughts, have now faded, of you

How silly of me to just wait, and wait
However could I do this every day?
Wasting away, the hours of my life
On someone, who has surely gone astray

As the sun sets in the distance
Twilight-covered clouds draw near
I won’t be sitting, upon this rock
I’ve made my decision, my dear

Should you make your way back to the country
You’ll find, I have better things to do
It did finally hit, and rather bluntly
I’ve had a long history of nearly nothing, with you

Not All Tarts are Raspberry – #MayWriting – #poetry

Rosie loved to visit, the old woman, at the bakery shop

Down the road she’d scurry, sometimes she’d even hop

She wanted to be the first, to grab her favorite tart

One covered with whipped cream, and raspberries, in a heart

Every day, ole Gertie, would try to sell her another

But Rosie, would have none of it, this was for her mother

Perhaps a blueberry tart, or prune, how would that do?

Pineapple, or strawberry, or maybe something new?

How about blackberry, or maybe she’d like to try this?

No, she said, shaking her head, the raspberries, she’d insist!

Gertie understood, as Rosie eyed the confectionery

“All tarts may be yummy, but not all tarts are raspberry”
