Won’t you please come closer, let me have a look at you
I promise not to harm you, I just want to know your name
I am, simply, an old tree, stuck in the snow, without a clue
As how to get the cold to leave, each year, it’s still the same

The sky gets rather cloudy, and the sun seems to run away
Is there a way for me to stop this, from happening again?
All at once, the light is gone, and all around me, turns gray
Perhaps you can teach me, how to change the ice to rain

You keep looking at me, with wonderment on your face
I seem to be quite different, than the others trees, I fear
I bet you’re trying to figure out, how I got to this place
I wish I had the answer, but Mother Nature’s left me here

Frozen in this position, I have no choice but to look down
I wonder if, there is a way, for you to help me straighten
Such puzzlement in your eyes, and now you have a frown
My guess is that you can’t, so that leaves me still misshapen

Maybe, perchance, you’ll come back, when the snow is done
Bring with you, a book or two, then we can read together
Spring, is when I’ll find my leaves, to shade you, from the sun
Yes, I can see that you agree, it’s also your kind of weather

Now off you go, dear child, before you turn much colder
And winter, in its harshest way, causes me to grow older

Mind yourself, stay warm, and dry

I’ll see you soon, I promise…

…Goodbye

Mother Nature, the teacher, her lessons, at times, concise

Reminds us, to not take life for granted, else we pay the price

But, she can’t do it all, alone, and it’s becoming quite a concern

Still, she keeps hoping every human being, eventually, will learn

What Amazon Says:

Human being has the will power to travel through an exhausting journey, win a tough battle, and heal a deep wound. Strength from hope keeps us going until the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight and striving until the storm is over.

Hurdle in her poetry collection includes themes of personal experiences in nature, difficult relationship, cancer treatment, marriage, parenthood, remembrance, reflection and inspiration. She reveals the honest self-talk and reflects a heart filled with optimism, faith and trust. She loves music, photography and watercolor painting and includes photos and paintings to complement the poems.

My Review:

“Songs of Heartstrings – Poems of Gratitude and Beatitude” is a most enjoyable book of poetry.  Told in the first person, Miriam Hurdle takes you along on her many journeys, in the ups and downs, of life.  I particularly enjoyed the photos, placed before many of the poems.  It brought me closer to what Miriam was relaying in her words.

My favorite poem is “Life’s Currents”.  Here, the author reminds us we are never alone, no matter the hardships we might face in our time here on Earth.  There is no doubt Miriam has a strong faith and relies on it for many of life’s obstacles.

The book is broken up into eight different sections, making it a very pleasant read.  Miriam uses different styles of poetry, so you’re never just reading.  She easily gets and keeps your attention throughout.  If you are looking for a poetry book filled with inspiration, and thought provoking passages, this is the book for you.  I highly recommend this to any and every one, as I thoroughly enjoyed reading “Songs of Heartstrings – Poems of Gratitude and Beatitude”.

I purchased the book in Kindle, and it also available in paperback from Amazon.

How I long to be wanderlust, like a boat upon the sea

Instead, I find my life, is a barrage of uncertainty

Will I find the answers, will it be the news I seek?

Or will it all remain mundane, without mystique?

How can I even begin to thank all of you for bringing me to this milestone.  I am overwhelmed at the support I receive from this blogging community, and beyond.  When I started this journey a little over five years ago, I was thrilled when I had one follower.  I’m still trying to wrap my head around 3500!!

There were many times I have thought about giving up, packing it in and saying it was a fun ride (and I actually did except, my daughter wouldn’t have it), but your comments and likes are what keep me going.  The friendships I have made here, and around the social media circuits, are more than I could ever imagine.  You have touched my heart and soul, and I am humbled by your kindness!!

Again, thank you so, so very much!  ❤

With Much Love,
Dorinda
