How quickly we can forget, those in desperate need

We hoard away material things we really don’t want

While thinking we’re living an illustrious life, indeed

We should never forget those, with faces, so gaunt

I am unseen, in this vast world I dwell

No one really notices I am here, as well

Walking around, with their heads in the air

Passersby never seeing, nor do they care

Making their way, to wherever they must

Leaving me here, with no hope, nor trust

That the human race will eventually awaken

Realizing, the path, so many have taken

Filled with self-doubts, a heart of defeat

No shelter from the cold, life on the street

No matter the weather, no matter the time

We remain unseen, a punishment, for no crime

Homeless, and haunting, his story, quite old

Living a vagrant’s life, in this world, so cold

Once proud to serve, with honor and respect

He finds himself, returned, empty and wrecked

Would you have a moment
To help me with my wares
Won’t you stop, lend a hand
And show me that you care

I cannot seem to get a job
For my dress is frayed and worn
I think I understand just why
You look at me with scorn

You think that I am lazy
You couldn’t be more wrong
I may look like a ragged mess
But my will, is ever strong

It is not my choice to live here
Like this, each and every day
Do you really understand
Why I am this way

I have been forgotten
So I live here on the street
Please won’t you help me
Find some shoes, for my bare feet

Author’s Note: As the winter months approach, please, if you have an extra pair of gloves, or a scarf, and you see someone in need, consider an act of kindness, knowing it may never be repaid.

Those who claim to be unaware, are simply negligent

While they go about their day, living with indifference

They turn a blind eye to the falling, becoming pestilent

We need to be the contrast to them, their deliverance
