Lost spirits, dancing, in midair flight,
No shadows cast, beneath the light

Of a street lamp, in the dewy mist,
Lingering softly, like a sweetened kiss

Stuck in limbo, they forage the Earth
Longing, praying, for their own rebirth

Though nothing here, is worth the tally,
Too many have gathered, in the alley

Harrowing screams, and chilling groans
Covered in dirt, these skeletal bones

They hope for more, but circumstances
Just don’t allow them, second chances

So hover they must, no place to land
Their presence, no longer in demand

Forced to move on, to find their place
Where eternity rests, without a trace

Stairs that wrap, disappear, out of sight

Ghostly figures that haunt the night

Dare not disturb this hallowed place

Nor ascend the steps, once filled with grace

Beware the guard who stands his ground

Tip toe now, don’t make a sound

Dare you disturb the spirits sleep

In this castle, is where you’ll keep

Locked away, in the darkest depth

Tis where you’ll take your final breath

All Hallows eve, the night closes in

Fantastical beasts return on a whim

Waiting and watching, the chill, we suspected

But shadows grow longer, and quite unexpected

The moon shines a glow, but it’s still not enough

To keep them from coming, though we try to rebuff

Witches and warlocks fly through the air

Skeletons rattle about without care

The living dead walk aimlessly in the dark

Ghosts and ghouls gather round in the park

All watching the clock, for the midnight hour

Impatiently waiting for what they will devour

Amidst the fog and full moon light

A house glows red with demonic delight

Terror reigns from deep within

Fills the air with a piercing din

Spirits roam the darkened grounds

Shrilling, shrieking, sounds abound

Horror shakes the shrouded land

That hides this fortress, once so grand

Haunting, against the black of night

Demons feast on earthly fright

Halloween, it’s trick or treat

Does that make it sickly sweet?

Would you prefer a devilish trick?

Or perhaps a marshmallow on a stick

Beware the goblins chasing ghosts

They’ll scare you out of your earthly host

Perhaps it’s better to just stay in

Away from all the spirited din

Remember, keep your doors shut tight

And turn on all the outside lights

Watch for witches, and green-eyed cats

And of course, those skeletons, riding bats

Beware of those who come your way

Unfriendly beings are not sweet today
