Whispers, silence in the night

Shadows, figures in the light

Footsteps, echo off the ground

Bodies, scattering around

Screaming, nothing can be heard

Blindness, filters the absurd

Evil, gathering its flock

Spirits, race against the clock

Sunlight, rising in the east

Demons end their deadly feast

At the Brink of the Link – #OctoberWriting #OctPoWriMo #poetry

She was dressed in a flowing gown of white, but there was nothing chaste about her; chained, her hands, to links of gold, she is the devil’s own, his saboteur. Fires blazed from her wings, as demons came to seek; the ones who dared to get too close, are made weaklings, ever meek. Her bindings, wrapped around a pole, each with a trio of skulls; snakes and scorpions at her feet, she’d been rejected, a mere cull. She would not settle for second best, she vowed to prove them wrong; unleashing her quite evil wrest, defeated those, so strong. For the skulls that clung so near her, fastened to the wooden pole; are the heads of those who cast her out, twas where she drowned them, in the shoal. So if at night, you hear a sound, a terrifying clink; take shelter far away from here, she’s found release, from the edge of the link.

She carries a heart, laden with woe

Across poppy fields, her burdens, in tow

Flanked by spirits, who shine in the night

Casting an ethereal, celestial light

She quickly turns away, head tucked in her hood

Fearing the demons have found her, for good

But these unworldly creatures, are merely her guides

To the realm where they dwell, on the heavenly side

And deep in her soul, she believes it’s elsewhere

Then she realizes, now, she’s her own cross to bear

Invisible light, doth never shines
Darkness, from my window, pines

Call to me, I’ll venture far
Away, from every shining star

Caress me with your ebony skies
Blackened, let the spirits rise

Take this earthly pound of flesh
Into the dead of night, refresh

My demons, let them now escape
Into the shadows, we reshape

The visions of the humans, dreams
Replace them all, with mortal screams

Take them, slowly, through the gate
Fear not, mere mortals, do not hate

The pitch that pries you from the light
Take comfort, in the blackest night

For it summons you, with adjuration
To follow, into, eternal damnation

I’m afraid, to close my eyes
Though sleep takes over me
It’s when the dead awaken
And I’m no longer free to be

They’re coming at me, running
Demons find the easiest way
To be spiteful, in their glory
And these thoughts, I can’t allay

They beckon to my very soul
To follow where they roam
And I fall helpless to their plea
A ghastly place, this catacomb

Try though I might, to wrestle away
They keep me close, so I can’t breathe
Red eyes, thumping evil hearts
Shooting fire, as they seethe

Inescapable, in their clutches
I try my best, these thoughts, to quell
Yet I cannot overcome the darkness
I’ve lost the battle, in this living hell
